Nowadays more and more Filipino youth prescribe to a new brand of “cool” – one that is synonymous with wholesome and responsible behavior. The real Pinoy teen knows better to channel their energy and enthusiasm to fun and positive activities. And recently, hundreds of teenagers were able to do just that — as well as display their impeccable dancing skills—during Jollibee’s explosive dance flash mob which was held at SM Mall of Asia’s The Atrium.

Having wholesome fun
Most teens understand that coolness is closely linked with having fun. And today’s teenagers prefer to preoccupy themselves with more productive pursuits. For the hundreds who took part in Jollibee’s flash mob, this means following their ultimate passion: dance.
“Dancing is something that I really love doing so I’m happy to be a part of this whole stunt,” shares Joseph Labsan, a 17-year-old student from Quezon City Polytechnic University student. “I think this is a good past time for teens like me because it helps one avoid vices.”

Ikat Gallardo, a 19-year-old studying at the De La Salle University-College of Saint Benilde, shares the same sentiment and also adds that positive activities such as dancing also teaches teens to respect themselves.

“If you want to become a good dancer, you have to take care of your body,” she says. “Smoking, drinking—these won’t do you any favors.”

This upbeat message is something that a lot of the participants hope to impart with their fellow teens. Nowadays, they say, negative actions, especially those which are potentially harmful, are definitely unhip.

“This project really encourages teens to have a positive creative outlet,” declares 18-year-old De La Salle University student Nina Bunsoy. “Let’s just do something like this instead of self-destructive things.”

Jollibee’s brand of cool

Apart from the thrill of performing in front of hundreds of spectators, a lot of the teens who took part in the Jollibee flash dance mob expressed that they were enticed to join the undertaking because of the good values it espouses. Jollibee’s initiative gave teens an avenue to relish the simple yet good things in life while staying true to themselves and having fun.

“Jollibee is such a cool brand for doing something like this,” exclaims Zara Jane Uy, a 19-year-old student from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. “It shows people that it is possible to have good, clean fun.”

Furthermore, 18-year-old Nikko Fernandez from the Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Training Institute says that the flash dance mob also proves that the brand “is not just for kids, but for teenagers as well”.

With Jollibee’s dance extravaganza, the country’s leading fast-food chain sets a good example among today’s teens by encouraging them to stay positive. And it also affirms its affinity to the real Pinoy Teen who has evolved positively through time, much like the langhap-sarap taste of Jollibee’s Yumburger which has continued to become better through the years.
