The legendary band from Osaka, Japan - Shonen Knife, made people jump and dance with their song under the full moon of February 27, 2010 at the San Miguel By the Bay, SM Mall of Asia. I arrived so late while ago and glad that there is no traffic in EDSA. I txted Maybelle of Japan Foundation Manila for some instructions on how will I enter the venue and get my media pass, then she txted me that the band is already playing live. I got nervous and armed myself with my Olympus E520 DSLR and ready to boot off the taxi in the middle of road in MOA. I'm glad that the Japanese lady from JFM helped me get my VIP pass from their staff and then I entered the venue, its so small, but it already accommodated a lot of audience and I love the view facing the ocean and behind the stage is the fountain.
I see bubbles, wind and smoke flowing in the stage, and my lens captured Naoko's guitar strum, kicks and some jumps, Ritsuko made me smile seeing her rock with her bass guitar and with a lot of headbangs, Etsuko so quiet behind the two rockers and leads the band music by hitting those snares and cymbals embedded with smiles and glowing face. Naoko's voice didn't change for so many years, now I believe in her when she told me that the uniqueness of Shonen Knife comes from heavy rock and roll spirit, and that spirit makes Shonen Knife more stronger and alive. I just watched their last 9 songs, I missed the song Banana Chips, but that's okay I still got there on time to listen BBQ, Sushi Bar, Top of the world. They also played new songs and saw Ritsuko has some songs too. oh wow! I'm so impressed with her.
The crowd really loved them, saw some folks of our own band - pedicab and duster, rocks with them near the stage, the jmusic community here in Manila was there too as I met some band members after the concert and they still want more!. I managed to take some photos and I'm laughing at myself because I don't know if I will watch, shoot photos or dance or jump. Thanks to JFM for the event, hope you can bring another Japan artist next year.
