We are here now in Peninsula resort in Calatagan, Batangas for the Bangkathon 2013. We will stay here overnight and wake up early at 5am to prepare for the grand boat paddle race. Its their tenth year today and kudos to the Conserve and Protect Oceans Foundation Philippines for keeping the sea protected and also educating our local fisher folks.
I just learned earlier that fisherfolks who will join the race should be registered and licensed fisherman, their boat are also registered. Jessie of Cap ocean org informed me that they have now 23 participants for the race tomorrow, the most exicting part is that the water here in Batangas is in its highest tide.... The most highest tide ever... They told us that the sea level here in Calatagan rises 3 inches every year, so that proves that sea level rising is active and in the future some islands in our country will be covered by the sea.. Freaky noh
Also the most exciting part is to see their artificial reefs under water. They have placed 14 reef pyramids under water, all completed and constructed by man.
The blocks used are made of dead corals and this man made reef can replaced the dead coral reefs.
Imagine... They have 14 pyramids... With height of 30 feet and standing under the 60 feet see water and that 14 reefs are built by thousands of volunteered divers from all over the world and funded by one private person here in Calatagan.
They invited us to dive tomorrow but i told them i can just snorkel... jessie said i can still view the reef pyramids from the surface via snorkel.
Also best part here... Its the only reef pyramid here in the country
Ok time to go to bed
See you later Bangkathon
