It
will be October once again in the next few days and we’re not excited for the
sem break and Halloween, but we are much excited for the Oktoberfest or shall we
call it the beerfest month! Here in the Philippines, we celebrate this as early
as September, but the official schedule is always in the last week of September
up to the early weeks of October. The Oktoberfest is usually celebrated in
Munich, Bavaria, Germany since 1810, and it’s a part of the Bavarian culture,
but there’s no need to go to Germany just to experience an authentic Oktoberfest
celebration, here in the Philippines, we have the celebration and party and
marking for its 75th celebration here in Manila, yeah it started on 1906 and
thanks to the German Club Manila for bringing the beer fest and friendly cheer
here in Manila.
The big celebration will be on October 18-19, 2013, it’s
a two day fest at Sofitel Philippine Plaza’s newly renovated Harbor Garden Tent.
And for Sofitel, they are celebrating this authentic Bavarian Oktoberfest for
its 4th year. For me, this will be my 2nd Oktoberfest, the last one I attended
was with the German embassy, and it’s a hell of a party! super fun with lots of
over flowing beer and a nice German sausage fest!
At first that
Oktoberfest is all about beer, but then I included now sausages in my list of
must try whenever there’s an Oktoberfest, but here at the special preview of
Sofitel and German Club Manila, I learned not only about drinking the best beer
and sausage, but also I learned how to dance that Oktoberfest song, I think the
title was – “swim drink strong fly ” -- it’s a nice song with lots of happy
dance step, I suggest you watch this clip in Youtube and see how it was done

At
the main launch and also press event, Sofitel Manila and German Club Manila
invited us for a teaser of the actual Oktoberfest, the whole ballroom at Sofitel
was converted into a Bavarian Oktoberfest setting. I was surprised to see the
whole venue, props and people in costume.
It
was around lunch time and I didn’t expected that I’ll drink beer at an early
time hahah.
It took me around 30 minutes to prepare myself for the beer
drinking session and also learn about Oktoberfest.
They
also taught us how to sing and dance of that Oktoberfest song
I
already quit in joining a beer drinking contest, I got a little trauma when I
was in a beer drinking battle vs. celebrity Derek Ramsey, yeah I loss on the
drinking battle hahahaa. But my blogger friends and Sofitel Manila team pushed
my hyper button and here I am with blogger Jonel in a 1 pint of San Miguel Beer
drinking contest on stage. The three of us guy loses to a girl who just drank a
mug of beer, partida pa, that the girl is not a beer drinker.
Spotted
this 75 number designed with authentic pretzels, this shows the 75th year of
Oktoberfest here in Manila, and thanks to German Club Manila for brining their
Bavarian culture here.
