Ever
wondering questioning yourself with concerns with regards saving energy; “May
Magagawa Ka”? Yes you can. Philips has officially launches their #MayMagagawaKa
advocacy campaign, in partnership with Deutsche Investitions- Und
Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (DEG Bank), World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF)
Philippines and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines.
The purpose of this campaign is for us to be aware of the current power
crisis that affects on all of us. “A power outage can be catastrophic for the
economy. We lose the comfort our homes and the stability of livelihood and
business. It will impact all sectors – consequently, it will take the unified
efforts of all these sectors to prevent it from happening in the future.” says
Fabia Tetteroo-Bueno, Country Manager of Philips Philippines at the event last
Wednesday, March 18.
As we all know that summer is here and we have an impending power crisis due
to the Malampaya Power Plant shutdown which leaves us a 700 megawatt deficit in
our power grids, meaning more rotating brownouts and this affects to our
business and our everyday activities which we depend on electricity.
So what can we do about this crisis? Simple: we conserve energy replacing
conventional lights to LED. Lighting costs around 20-30 percent of the
Philippines household monthly electrical bill. Saving energy has become an
environmental issue as lighting accounts for almost a fifth of global energy or
equivalent to 1.9 billion tons of carbon emissions every year and still rising.
“Saving energy is one way to help manage this deficit and with most energy
coming from fossil fuels, less consumption of energy means lesser production of
greenhouse gasses.” says Joel Palma, WWF President and Chief Executive Officer.
As part of #MayMagagawaKa campaign, Philips showcased a line of LED products
to consumers, now at an affordable price (SRP of a LED bulb is priced starting
at Php 149.00) and they even launched a series of online videos on Facebook and
YouTube that features real-life testimonials of Filipino consumers whose lives
were changed by the power outages.
They also partnered with Team Manila
Lifestyle to create three limited edition t-shirts. They also have an on-going
promo for those who will support the campaign: for every purchase of Philips LED
products at selected stores will get the limited t-shirt. But that doesn’t stop
there, Philips will also be giving away exclusive prizes in an ongoing Facebook
contest at their Philips LED official Facebook page for the switch off event for
Earth Hour with WWF Philippines.
So #MayMagagawaKa on saving energy? Yes we can!
