The twenty-eight chosen young leaders from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will represent the Philippines as youth ambassadors of goodwill to the 42nd Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP), a diplomatic cultural affair that brings together more than 300 youths from Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) member countries and Japan.
This year’s Philippine Contingent brings the name “Saligan” inspired by the value of trust grounded on united aspirations to showcase what it means to be a Filipino while building friendships and exchanging ideas with other nationalities.
The Philippine Delegation is composed of young professionals, tourism advocates, educators, medical practitioners, communication specialist, community workers, students, artists and entrepreneurs whose ages range from 18 to 30 years old. These youth ambassadors will participate in the series of activities designed to widen their international perspectives. Discussions on social issues, cultural introductions, club activities, institutional visits, homestay experience and community service are among the activities they shall be involved within 51 days.
Heading the delegation this year is Mr. Alfredo Diaz, a theater director and professor from the University of the Philippines-Iloilo as the National Leader, together with Jonathan De Quiroz as the Youth Leader and Maxinne Erica Mamaril as the Assistant Youth Leader.
The batch Saligan is set to start their journey through the luxurious and historical cruise, Nippon Maru, on r 26 October 2015 visiting Japan, Vietnam, Myanmar and Malaysia. The Philippines is one of the five countries to host this year’s SSEAYP.
The Philippine Contingent is composed of: NaSSEAYP is principally sponsored by the Japanese government and supported by the ASEAN countries.
