Sofitel Philippine Plaza hosted an early dinner by the sunset inline for the annual Sustainable Seafood Week, for the 3rd year here in Manila, it is leaded by Meliomar, a seafood supplier for hotels, restaurant and resorts, their seafood products are sourced from small scale fishing communities.
AccorHotels Philippines, together with their hotel properties here in Manila -- Sofitel Philippine Plaza, Fairmont Makati, Raffles Makati, Mercure Ortigas, Novotel Araneta Center and Joy Nostalg Hotels and Suites Manila and other 4200 properties worldwide are supporting this sustainable seafood program and they want to inform everyone that are using seafood supplies in a responsible way and prepare the food with high quality and practice the reduction of wastage.
All seafood supplies are coming from providers that are accredited by the program that practice the sustainable seafood harvest and coming from local fisher folk.
About the Sustainable Seafood Initiative
The Sustainable Seafood Initiative is composed of different stakeholders in government, the hotel and restaurant industry, seafood companies and NGO’s, that have come together to create an open, dynamic platform for interested stakeholders to discuss the status, challenges, and solutions toward more sustainable seafood in the Philippines. The initiative focuses on local solutions, and reform in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
The goal is to help improve the health of our oceans by pursuing responsible business practices in the sourcing of seafood products from more sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, and is aligned with similar global efforts.
Its my 2nd year to join this big event, I'm glad that there's a group who suggested to practice the seafood sustainability. This is to help other kind of fish to breed again and wait for the next season of harvest. Local fisher folks will benefit more because all accredited suppliers by the sustainable seafood will use them as source for other fishes.
Also its a campaign for all that they should not catch fish that are listed under the endangered animals.
Chefs from the AccorHotels properties are here to showcase their food using the sustainable seafood supplies. Its my first time also to see Joy Nostalg in the line up. I haven't tried their restaurant but Im confident that it will be good.
“At AccorHotels, we are fully committed towards promoting our sustainable development program under Planet 21. We are passionate about ensuring responsible and sustainable operations from the sourcing of our ingredients to the reduction of wastage, We support local producers and are actively engaged towards doing our part to help preserve our resources and maintain a balanced ecosystem for future generations.”
- Adam Laker, Area General Manager for AccorHotels Philippines
“I am excited that AccorHotels Philippines in line with its Planet 21 Sustainable Development Program is participating in the third Annual Sustainable Seafood Week in Manila. It is important that international hotel groups have access to ingredients sourced responsibly and sustainably so that chefs can implement the hotel’s system on sustainable culinary operations. Meliomar offers these sustainable seafood solutions as we source purely based on our strict procurement guidelines; no endangered species and juveniles.
All of Meliomar’s seafood products are sourced from smallscale fishing communities, which lead to positive livelihood impact for fishing families. We are happy to collaborate with AccorHotels Philippines in bringing this positive change to the currently overfished bodies of water of the Philippines, showing 10 out of 13 heavily exploited fishing grounds.”
- Christian Schmidradner, Meliomar General Manager
Christine Jacob hosted the sunset dinner program and she introduced the chefs from Joy Nostalg and the lady chef of Fairmont and Raffles Hotel.
Its great to see the beautiful sunset here at Sofitel's seawall garden. Here's our last photo with Kat Nocom, this will be her last event here in Sofitel, but we're not yet sad or worried, because she will transfer soon to another AccorHotels properties. Im sure we will do a collab with her soon.
After the program, we are ready to visit all buffet table and try the food prepared by the 6 AccorHotels. The food offered here are also offered at their respective hotels. So if ever you are going to eat in a buffet in one of their hotels, ask them about the food that are under the sustainable seafood program.
Joy-Nostalg buffet
At the Sofitel Philippine Plaza buffet, feat. Spiral. A chef torches the tuna sushi, I think it was called Aburi Otoro.
Btw, they are using a yellowfin tuna supplied by Meliomar.
The result: a very tasty grilled flavor sensation in my mouth. You can still taste the freshness of the tuna meat and aromatic of a burned or grilled flavor.
Its a weird taste.
A new taste in my mouth
I love it and this is my favorite food of the night!
There's California Maki and crazy maki - they use tuna and mackerel fish on the rolls
Yellowfin tuna for a nice sashimi feast
Grilled Tuna Skewer by Mercure Hotels
They also use the yellowfin tuna
a kind of salmon salad
they use the atlantic salmon fish for their salmon meat
Garlic shrimp salad
Tuna in avocado ceviche by Novotel
Tuna meat on the table to show the freshness
Salmon balls with garlic chives sauce
One of the crowd fave here at Joy-Nostalg buffet table
I also love this Mackerel Sardines
Its tasty and the Spanish oil is a perfect companion to make it more tastier
Risotto with tuna meat
One of my fave too.
My 3rd plate of the night. I super indulge myself with lots of sushi and maki after trying the cocktail food. After my meal, I felt so heavy.
The fish is good, really tasty and this is a proof that we can use other kind of fishes and not just forever salmon or the highest quality of tuna, but these fish meat are from the local fisher folks who live in poor communities. We're glad that the Sustainable Seafood Initiative also focuses on helping the small time fishermen.
Capping off my night with some hot latte here at Snaps Sports Bar, we did our bonding time with fellow bloggers and friends at Sofitel.
Thanks for reading my blog guys.
Im a bit slow in blogging today, but it was just a 2 days late after this dinner event. haha
