We Belong vs. First Love
Toni Gonzaga vs. Utada Hikaru

its so freaky when I caught Toni Gonzaga's music video title " WE BELONG", at first it was okay , enjoying to see her in shorts, but then I was shocked to hear its chorus, it was the same tune, same beat , and also same lyric tune of Utada Hikaru's "FIRST LOVE" chorus line., I immediately took photos of her music video, too bad that I dont have a recorder with me, . what's happening to our song writers? are they starting to get lazy in creating their own tune for a song. anyway, If you saw the video , the one with Piolo Pascual and Toni, correct me if I'm wrong that its tune is a rip off from Hikaru's "First Love".

Hey Az. I agree with you there. It does sound like Utada's "First Love"! Might be worse than the "Itsumo" issue, me thinks.

I'm trying to see if I could get some details about the song (album credits, composer, arranger, etc). I have no intention of buying the album though.

the chorus of the song by toni and utada's first love were very similar in terms of musical arrangements... while in dice and k9's case... it was the lyrics of the chorus itself that they copied... so either way... both the composer of we belong and dice and k9 committed plagiarism... too bad utada doesn't have an idea her song first love was being popularised by other people without her consent... tsk tsk though i think nothing could be worst than orange and lemons' case in ripping the care's chandelier... also cueshe's copying of silverchair's the greatest view (they really insulted a good song!!!! argggh!)

but then again, the song we belong can't be filed for a lawsuit because of the 7 note rule... oh well, that's just my opinion... yun lang!!!

yup, toni's we belong is some sort of plagiarism. but even that we have that 7 note rule, we can still identify that it came from utada's song..

grabe na talaga.. ano naman kaya ang susunod.

Right...Toni's "we belong" did have a similarity with Utada's "first love"...i even thought that it was a new rendition of the song when i first heard it...esp. on the chorus..

Az, found some info about the composer. According to a post in the ABS-CBN forums, it was penned by a Christian Martinez.

the intro of toni's song, sounded very much like utada's other song:'eternally'(with some key notes omitted), but the chorus is definitely from 'first love'.

when i heared the music i already recognized that it was "First Love" by Utada Hikaru.... I know it because I memorized the tune and the lyrics of "First Love"...

"First Love" is the first...

sorry but mas maganda ang original version kaysa sa gaya lang....

late reaction daw ba, ngayon lang kasi ako napadpad dito habang nags-search.^^; anyway, alam ni tonee yung first love. kinanta nya yun dati sa isang primetime telenovela sa GMA nung baguhan pa lang sya. Kumakanta yata sa isang club o bar yung character nya doon. disappointing talaga nung narinig ko yung kanta nya the first time, ok sana yung voice kaya lang rip off yung kanta.

Si Toni? Naunahan siya ni Jessa Zaragoza sa pag-remake ng 'First Love'. Kaso lang, si Jessa, sa kanyang English version, she based it on Utada Hikaru's Japanese version and she did not change the title and claimed it as her own. Jessa released her cover ages before Toni ripped off the song and claimed it as her own. Hay, naku. How fraudulent naman you Toni ha. I was so turned on na sana but you sure know how to get rid of your fans...

Toni Gonzaga is a joke. My assessment is that she's just a rookie who wants to dip into the success Utada Hikaru has already achieved. Unlike Toni, her fame extends globally. Hikki has established her name years before this piss of untalented skunk appeared on tv. No wonder we often get labelled and denigrated because of the likes of her. Hikki desrves all the love and respect from fans who have followed her through the years and who truly appreciate her talent,her creativity and her work. Toni on the other hand can just chew away her brain with her pitbull-like jaws and that would be more entertaining than hearing her malign a beautiful song. 'Nuff said.
