“We want to help raise awareness and greater appreciation for our local children’s books,” says Albert Cuadrante, Jollibee Vice President for Marketing. “We believe that kids would be able to relate well with the various stories and discover more about the Filipino culture in a fun and appealing manner. More importantly, as they enjoy these stories that will hopefully be read to them by their parents, they will pick up values that would help them become better, well-rounded children.”
After recently partnering with the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) for this year’s National Book Day celebration, the country’s leading fast food chain further influences kids to read more, enjoy and learn from these well-crafted, locally produced books.
On August 15, Jollibee gives away selected Pinoy storybooks from among the winning titles cited by the PBBY during the recent National Childen’s Book Awards ceremony last July 24.
The first 50 Jollibee Kids Club members to drop by on this day in any of the 50 selected Jollibee outlets in Metro Manila will get a free book each. Jollibee Kids Club members just need to show their membership ID and they can take home one of these four charmingly-written and beautifully-illustrated children’s books:
Can We Live On Mars? , published by Adarna House, is an illustrated science book for children 9 to 12 years old. Both educational and entertaining, the book manages to mix meaty facts along with visual and humorous illustrations that are sure to inspire children to be budding scientists.
Lub-Dub, Lub-Dub is a heartwarming story written by Russell Molina and illustrated by Jomike Tejido. Published by The Bookmark, Inc., it tells the story of an observant girl and her encounters with her younger sister’s doctor. The book manages to touch the emotions by reminding readers that despite differences, we all have one sound of a beating heart.
Tagu-Taguan is a book that teaches kids how to count in Filipino. Written and illustrated by Jomike Tejido, and published by Tahanan Publishing Inc., Tagu-Taguan is not just a typical counting book as it is also filled with artistic recreations of backyard creatures – from spiders and earthworms to butterflies. Counting has never been more appealing to both the eye and mind as the book provides a refreshing take on the basic numbers game.
Lastly, Just Add Dirt, written by Becky Bravo, illustrated by Jason Moss and published by Adarna House, is a book written for kids ages 8 to 10. It reminds them of the importance of taking care of their body through a funny story about a boy who hates taking a bath – until vegetables and plants start growing out of his ears!
