Mother Earth needs our help, and the only way we can do to help is be a part of a solution and not a pollution. We can be one of the Juan Earth eco warriors, taking baby step at a time to help preserve our environment and also protect the animals.
There are lots of ways how you can help preserve and protect mother nature, you can start there in your home, and bring a new kind of lifestyle, an eco friendly lifestyle that can help lessen the pollution around us, and be part of the voice that can influence others to do the same.
Im not a hero or a superhero, Im just an ordinary person who lives with everyone in one planet and also breathing the same air. What will happen if everything we need to live starts to deteriorate, we can no longer live a luxurious life -- having a clean air, water and food for our daily needs. One thing affects the other, its a chain reaction and if it happens, then we are doomed.
Being a Juan Earth eco warrior, will require you to have knowledge first, get to know the bad things happening around us, find a solution, and practice that solution that can help lessen the damage of this planet.
Here are my small steps guide on how to start as a Juan Earth Hero
1. Join a tree planting activity.
Trees in our mountains are starting to go zero, the cause: illegal logging, forest fire, and over development of land. The result: flooding down the mountain, typhoons damage more the mountain because of flooding and landslide, animals die because they dont have home to live and humans suffer because of this chain reaction.
The only way to help the mountains to recover is to plant more trees. Plating some baby trees will help in rehabilitating the growth of trees and also the energy of the mountain.
Planting small trees will give more benefit to everyone after 15-20 more years. I just learned that pine trees can grow up to 2 feet within 3 years.
1,000 of trees are planted in every tree planting activity, in other project, they plant more trees.
It will be possible if hundreds of people participate in a tree planting project, that’s why lots of NGO and companies who adopt mountains for rehab are inviting the entire community to join them in planting more trees.

2. Recycle, Reduce and Re-use
I first learned this at home when my wife taught us how to recycle the junk, re-use them again and by practicing this, we help in reducing waste.
At home, we sell some of the recyclable items to a junk shop and this is a proof that there’s really money in trash.
Tip: segregate the nonbiodegradable items and the biodegradable waste. Cans, bottles, paper, cartons and packages can be sold to a junk shop. Plastic bags can be re-used again for storage, for shopping and for storage of waste.
If you are planting veggies at home, you can use the PET bottles as your plant pot. Here at our home, my wife used the PET bottles as her nursery for her veggies at her farm.
There’s also a way to do zero waste by re-using those shampoo bottles at home. There’s a group already that campaigns for zero waste and they invite everyone to re-use those plastic bottles to refill it with their bath essentials. They sell these bath essentials for a very affordable price, by practicing zero waste, you can help reduce more waste and prevent from over using a lot of plastic items.

3. Attend talks, seminars and events about saving our environment
Be aware and learn more about the environment. There are a lot of group and NGO that are doing a wide scale campaign to save the environment.
By attending to some talks or seminars, you get to know the current state of a town that are in bad condition because of pollution and overfishing.
For example -- the Danajon Bank in Bohol was saved by the community and thanks to the NGO and their volunteers for educating the locals that should stop overfishing and also doing illegal fishing.
Learning will give you more idea how you can save the planet. Thanks to these events and til now I help in campaigning for what they have done.
Today, the Danajon Bank is now one of the richest marine biodiversity in the planet.

4. Join coastal clean up activities
Trash again, its us human are at fault, and the waste pollute not only the sea, but also the beach. The problem here is that --- the trash is a main problem to marina animals and also land animals. Many animals die because they thought those trash are food.
The only way to save the sea and animals is to help clean up the coastal area. Trash will still come because trash is literally anywhere in our oceans, the waves and the current bring the trash back to shore. And this very damaging to the beach area with animals roaming around.
The trash is a big pollutant, and if the sea gets polluted, people living near coastal areas will have a hard time catching fish and possible that fish will die when they live in polluted waters.
From my last coastal clean up, we collected lots of metals, plastic, dead trees, biodegradable stuff and many more.
Coastal clean up are fun, you get to meet fellow eco warriors and also expand your knowledge about cleaning the ocean and the shore.

5. Attend Juan Earth’s 5th year anniversary special
Volunteering to these environmental efforts is just one step at Juan Earth on September 29, 2018 at Bonifacio High Street Activity Center, 9th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. Juan Earth is a grassroots effort produced by Write On Track and its dedicated team of community volunteers wanting to educate and empower people to create a healthier and more sustainable world.
