The Wild Swans Fly High (live in Cebu and Manila)

Journeying through the 80s and into today’s music, The Wild Swans still remains as one of music’s most fascinating bands and Paul Simpson still continues to be an elusive superstar in the heavens.

The 80s discovered them as a New Romantic band coupled with Simpson’s dactylic lyrics that resembled a modern sonnet from “Revolutionary Spirit” to the rise of “Bringing Home The Ashes”, “Young Manhood” and “Bible Dreams.” These were songs in prose and poetry combined yet speaking from an idyllic heart of what it is and what would be.

Care saw Simpson weave and grief with songs such as “My Boyish Days”, “Whatever Possessed You” and “The Worst Year of My Life.”

Paul Simpson’s Skyray project tried to illuminate the dark skies in the 90s but stumbling forward 20 years to the present, Simpson once more reverberates with the same passion as the 80s has discovered him with a completely meaner and rock melodic sound stripping the 80s illusion of jingly - jangly guitars yet without losing his vision of those rhapsodic lyrics with the album, “The Coldest Winter For A Hundred Years” with with it’s carrier single “English Electric Lightning” and the retrospective “Liquid Mercury” which sung about his happiness and frustrations about the long lost members of The Wild Swans. “In Secret” was obvious but the sound and melody grips you with the lines, “They don’t see what I see...they don’t know what I know...some people they never come back...” or “some days I wake I up and I wonder if we went mad...but we know better than that...we just took it to the edge” and that is where The Wild Swans is taking us right now as they continue to be trailblazers in music yet very distinct and refined with their eloquence of words.

At last, finding their courage to fly, Paul Simpson thrusts forward full throttle with a new line up with Ricky Rene Maymi (Brian Jonestown Massacre/The Triffids/Steve Kilbey of The Church), Les Pattinson (Echo and The Bunnymen), Mike Mooney, Stuart Mann and Richard Turvey.

They will engage in a two - night concert starting on September 30, 2011 at The Waterfront Hotel in Lahug, Cebu City and finally, Manila will get to see and hear them on October 1, 2011, at 1 Esplanade, MOA, Pasay City.
