I just saw the documentary feature film "Ice Worlds" at the advance screening event at the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center, SM Mall of Asia. The film is about the melting of ice in Antartica and other regions of our planet, the effects and causes of the ice melts was explained and shown at the film. (read more below)
The ice melts down and it increases a major rise of sea level that can affect to some islands in the world, and according to keynote speaker, Jose Ma. Lorenzo Tan, CEO and vice chairman of the Board of Trustees of WWF Philippines and also chairman and president of the Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation, that it is already happening here in the Philippines and our islands in Palawan now experience the big rise of sea level which damages a lot of environmental lands and livelihood.
The film serves as an eye opener to parents and kids about the global problems we are facing, and gives a solution on how we can prevent climate change and global warming, which results to the melting of ice in the polar areas of the Earth.
The regular screening of "Ice Worlds" will start on June 23, 2009, and for every screening there will be a quiz contest for kids, and the winner of the quiz will take home a big thick science book from Time Life.
The documentary examines the ecosystems that live and thrive the Earth’s Arctic and Antarctic regions and how their survival is connected with human being’s own survival. Beyond Earth, Ice Worlds looks at how the existence of ice shapes the landscape and the natural systems on other planets and moons in the solar system.
Narrated by British actress Emily Watson, star of The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep, Ice Worlds is produced in cooperation with the University of New Hampshire, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, with the support of the National Science Foundation.
Mr. Tan also serves on the Technical Adviser’s Group of the Secretary of Agriculture. He is an NGO member of the Sulu Sulawesi Marine Eco-region Tri-National Committee, the Management Board of Tubbataha Reef Natural Park, and the Joint Management Committee of the Turtle Islands Heritage Protected Area that covers Malaysia and Philippines.
A published author, Mr. Tan wrote two books, A Field Guide to Whales and Dolphins of the Philippines and The Last Great Forest, which both won the National Book Awards for

the film is awesome because it is played in a 180 degrees screen and you'll turn your head over and you'll experience that you are flying in space, or under the water, the visual presentation in the digistar cinema will enjoy you. Here's a tip, you should guide well your kid in watching this documentary, it will be better that you give them a little backgrounder about the film or about the situation of the film, so that they can be more curious before they watch the film, and answer all their questions after it.
After the film, we got a tour inside the science center, and we started at the Mother Earth space ship screening center and then we met Mr. T, the talented talking fish, and experienced a simulated earthquake, which gave me a lot of phobia, because I dont like earthquakes. Then after checking out some robotic stuff, we played around in some activity games at the ground floor and have our group photo taken and digitally edited as like we are at Malaysia ahahaha. It was my 2nd time here, and glad that the film is changing every season. Hope they can add more activities in the area on my next visit.
