Aim, shoot, reload, shoot, look, duck...ok wait, you can't duck in here because all you need to do is shoot and defeat those zombies or enemy alien robots.
That's the magic of virtual reality gaming, a gaming system that we dream of since the 80's and was popularized by movies and tv series. The technology used by virtual reality is now in the reach of our hands, you can now take home a VR system and make your own DIY VR world, you can also download an app and play with it with your VR goggles or you can just go to S Maison mall in Conrad Hotel along SM MOA and enter the VR+ Philippines virtual reality gaming boutique and rent a room for a 15-30 minutes gaming action.
My goodness, this is the future of gaming and I just can't believe Im here and feels like Im a kid again!!! its great to be alive in this generation, we get to try these new gaming tech that gets better and better.
Btw, the upcoming movie -- Ready Player One, is similar to the concept of VR+ Philippines virtual reality games, but the tech in the movie is much more advanced, but thats okay at least we know how we feel and react when we enter the animated gaming world.
VR+ Philippines opened last February and they are located at the 2nd floor of S Maison. The company behind VR+ Philippines is VR Kings Amusement Inc, a franchise of Vader based in Taiwan. The operation here in the Philippines is in partnership with BA Next Generation Amusement Inc and PC Express.
The games used by VR+ Philippines are exclusively developed by OXON Game Studio, a Taiwan based mobile game developer since 2014 and they are known for developing the games World II, World III, Galaxy Reavers, Future War. The company also mentioned that they are co-oped with Square Enix and produced $250M revenue in over 3 years.
The VR gaming system is powered by GeForce GTX 1080 GPU by NVIDIA, a powerful GPU that helps the VR system's games run smoother and faster
VR+ Philippines are using replica rifles with VR controller, expect them to be heavy and it feels that you are using a real gun, just like this machine gun, it vibrates and function just like a real gun.
Each weapons -- machine gun, hand gun, shotgun and space gun are custom made with the wireless VR controller
This space gun is light weight and they are used for the kid's game "Get out of my house"
All weapons shoot only in the virtual world, there are no bullets or projectile coming out, they just pop up in the virtual world and only works there while you use it handheld.
VR+ Philippines are using HTC Vive VR goggles and controller for their VR system. I've tried two kinds of VR system and for me the HTC Vive VR is the best for VR game shooters and the tracking is very accurate.
VR+ Philippines are featuring their 5 custom made games, and they are exclusively available only for their gaming brand.
There are 4 games for adults and 1 game for kids. Take note that the zombie games are very realistic and theres too much violence going on in there, the zombie games are not fit for kids and also for people who have heart conditions.
For kids, they can try the "Get out of my house" shooting game, its a very kid friendly VR game, and they just need to shoot alien robots in the city, maybe this game fits for 5 years old and above.
For the zombie games -- I suggest you try in these sequence
1. Dead Prison 1
2. Dead Prison 2
3. Zombie Jail: No Mercy
The three zombie games are all shooting games
But if you dont want to carry a big gun and get the feel of getting tired for 15-20 minutes standing and doing some movements, then you should try Death Room - a VR game that lets you sit only and experience a ghost scenario inside the room.
Each game has a requirement of 3-5 players, I suggest you play the games with your friends or play with other players. Its easy to win the game if you have more players inside the gaming booth, because you work in a cooperative environment, you dont really see each other in real form but when you wear the VR goggles, you'll see your friends and other gamers in their virtual reality animated form -- its funny that I used a VR player character and I became a sexy girl in bikini holding a machine gun hahaha.
If you want to experience VR gaming, then you have to shell out PHP300-PHP450 for each game per person. I suggest you organize a trip here with your friends and do a collab gaming by getting the 4 in 1 package -- PHP 1300.
Its like entering a theme park, you pay for each ride and experience massive adrenaline rush when your at the VR world.
Playing all 5 games are fun! we got all sweaty and our arms got tired -- bring extra clothes and bottled water to keep you hydrated and fresh after the game.
When you pay at the counter, the VR+ staff will award you some gaming stubs, these gaming stubs can be used for the games that you paid for. There might be some long line for each gaming room, so you have to wait for your turn and wait for the staff to call your name and your team's name.
Each VR gaming could last 15-20 minutes, depends on how long you can stay alive inside the VR world. Add another 5 minutes of waiting after the exit of players, because the VR+ staff need to clean up all the VR goggles and guns before letting it be used by VR players.
They sterilize the VR goggles with some isopropyl alcohol ( im not sure if its really an alcohol) but if you have allergy or uncomfy of using the goggles, then I suggest you bring a hair net or motocycle's balaclava to cover your entire head and cheeks
Before playing, you'll be oriented first on how the game works, how to use the guns, how to use the goggles and they will also inform you that their VR+ staff will be allow to touch you on the arms and back while playing the game --- you have to take note of this so that you wont be surprised if someone touches you on the arm, or grab you, -- they do this to help you not hit other players with your gun or hit yourself on the wall or damage the gaming gadgets you hold while playing.
The VR+ staff inside the room will act as your guide, and you can raise your hand if you want to quit the game-- I suggest you close your eyes and then raise your hand, then tell them you dont want to play anymore, so that they can help you remove the gun first and then the goggles.
Here's our first game playing Dead Prison 1.
Im using the shotgun and its the most arm stressing gun ever. But its the most powerful gun in the game, at the game there's 3 shotgun, 1 hand gun and 1 machine gun.
We almost reached the final level and for us- this is the best game!
2nd game is Dead Prison 2.
We climbed up the back of a real truck that vibrates and feels like its moving, they added two fans for the wind effect and OMG!!! its like we're really on top of the truck. The agenda, you try to escape the prison and you have to shoot your way out versus those zombies!
I think we played this less than 10 minutes -- its the most difficult game for me because the zombies are too many!
The next game is Death Room -- its like you are in a spirit of the glass session with friends and you've accidentally summoned a demonic spirit. The spirit will interfere with each player and there's a game mechanics on how you can survive.
All players are on the chair only, no need to shoot or stand up--- just sit and let the game take you to the VR world of horror.
Btw, all of us died in the game.
The next game we tried is "Get out of my house!" its a kid's game and I find this game very cute!
Everything is colorful and you'll see other players transformed into these small human pixelated characters.
The game evolves from kid friendly game up to the most difficult part --- you need more cooperation in playing, because the alien robots keeps on coming and coming -- plus they invited some big robots too. How to win ? just protect the scientist in front of you and dont let any robots reach him
The final game we tried is the Zombie Jail: No Mercy.
OMG this game!!! all players are using machine guns, you play Rambo and shoot everything that moves around you. Aim, shoot, reload, aim, shoot, reload -- no mercy to zombies!!!
Its the most stressful game! but it falls on my 2nd fave game here in VR+ Philippines.
Look at us --- all are serious in playing hahaha.
Shouting to signal and communicate with your team mates are OK, you need that so that you can win the game - communicate well and you get to advance to the next level.
Me with Enzo and Ron played all the games with other players, a couple joined with us just to complete the 3-5 players requirement for each game.
Each game left us with a hang over -- sweaty head and body and also stressed arms hahaha.
Its fun and we super enjoyed playing games at VR+
