The 2nd San Pablo City Comics Festival

I was at the first comics art festival and did host/emcee for the event, it was fun, windy, and awesome to see all artist travel to San Pablo City, Laguna to attend a one of a kind (and unique) comics art festival. This is round two! and I invite you to be there.

December 6, 2009
Lion's Club, Sampalok Lake, San Pablo City, Laguna

The Second San Pablo Comics Festival is a celebration of Philippine comics where one can buy independently produced Filipino comic books (as well as imported ones) and meet the people who create them!

There will be a comics art exhibit, art contest, writer and artist signings, comic book sales, mini- tutorials, mini seminars, panel discussions and many more!

San Pablo too far away? Think of it as a vacation! Think of it as getting away from it all! Think of it as decentralizing Manila and spreading the comics love to the provinces! Plus, you'll get an AWESOME view!

See you there!

Handa na silang sumikat (Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool 2009)

They are ready to become famous in the world of rock band and music

In the 2009 tag line and theme – Handa ka na ba sumikat?, Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool 2009 gave a big hit and opportunity to all amateur and college bands to break in to the rock music industry and not only in the music scene, but to have also a recording deal and album and a brand that they will endorse automatically if they win in the battle of the college bands. Few days ago, I was in Boracay for 5 days to witness and cover the band and music workshop conducted by rockstars like 6cyclemind, Pupil, Sandwich, Letter Day Story, a lecture of Darwin Hernandez of Soup Entertainment about band-manager relatioship and also a lecture by Vic Valenciano of Sony Music Philippines about how does the music industry and business goes.

Been dreaming of becoming a rockstar and these kids who joined the contest were so lucky to be included in the magic 13, they got a free trip to Boracay to attend the workshop for 5 days and learn more on how they can enhance their performance on stage and also the art of making their music more clean and perfect. Everyone were there are smiling and so excited on the next activity, they became friends so fast and think of having a 5 day class and everyone loves to jam with one another. Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and GMA finalist merge together in one conference room to open their mind and senses as art of music and performing lessons will add to their talent and skills. (read more below)

According to Ms. Eileen Rose Bangcoro (Nescafe marketing promotions and events executive), the event is getting bigger and bigger and they are putting a lot of effort in communicating to the youth and because that the youth is more present in the digital world, they used the internet to engage more with the youths to participate by logging to their website to enter the contest and vote for them. Next year will be more bigger and bolder, the youths are very active and dynamic and we should change our phase and way on how we can communicate to them, even the TVC with the “Kahit sino mix mo” theme is aim to talk to the youth. The digital media help a lot, the competition info just spread only in the internet and they didn’t use more of the tv and radio media. The viral videos in Youtube help a lot also. I asked her about making more music and band conference and she just shared that they had one last year like a summer camp with different colleges and universities that has workshop for those who want to enhance their music creativity. This year they are thinking more and let’s just wait for more surprises next year. And they stick onto the music event because they believe that music is the universal language to communicate and its much more easier to catch and more enjoyable and it is effective to give the message, so that’s Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool.

Got a chance to interview the members of Soltera band, GMA finalist and represent AMA IT Cubao. Their music style is alternative rock with their female front man, their music influence is Rage against the machine and Incubus. Their band was formed last August 2009 started as classmates and friends and later on decided to form a band and join the Nescafe 3in1 Soundskool. As they say even if they didn’t win the contest they will still play as a band and will surprise us more on November 14 at the grand finals event. They also advice to those who want to join the contest is that don’t let opportunity pass and try your best but don’t expect too much, express your music and have fun of it.
Soltera band is Emily Laxamana, John Ryan Nabus, John Paul Alpha Adorna, Joatham Fernandez Russel Enriquez.

Watch all 13 band finalist tomorrow November 14, 2009 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, gate opens at 5:00pm. Buy your tickets at the gate. Or watch the main event at home via live video streaming, just visit the official website -

Pupil @ Nescafe 3n1 Soundskool 2009 Boracay

I don't know the reason why is that I am so nervous everytime I will watch Ely Buendia on stage, the day 4 of the Nescafe Soundskool ended with am awesome performance of Pupil with 2 encore songs of Alapaap and Queen's Under Pressure song. People went jumping on the sands hearing hit singles like "Wala ka na", "Teacher's Pet" and "Disconnection Notice". Ely gave away their photobook copy Againts the Light to the lucky audience. And of course, meeting them after the set is a mind breaking experience, thanks to their manager Day Cabuhat for a little great intro about me and this blog hhahaha. I think Ely and also Yanni knew about this blog after my blog coverage of the 2 Eraserheads concert. ( more pics below)

photo album set to be posted soon

Sandwich @ Nescafe 3n1 Soundskool 2009 Boracay

Day 3 is the most energetic day for me, been busy on that day covering the event and went swimming in the beach of Boracay in the afternoon. Here we saw Sandwich performed live on stage after the Luzon finalist. And later on they performed classic and blues with other band members in Mandarin resort hotel. ( more photos below)

6cyclemind @ Nescafe 3n1 Soundskool 2009 Boracay
