Buhay Carinderia - The Biggest Culinary Event to Feature Home Cooked Filipino Food

I’m a patron of affordable and delicious food from carinderias. You can choose up to 2 or 3 varieties of dishes, a cup of 1 and a half rice (extra rice to follow haha), a soda and a hot sabaw (soup) and all it’ll cost you is under 100 pesos only!

You can even request to add just little bit more of your favorite dish or ask to top your rice with that savory adobo sauce. This time, home cooked Filipino food from local eateries will be this year’s highlight for the biggest culinary event in the Philippines called Buhay Carinderia.

Buhay Carinderia was started by Marylindbert International Inc. initially called Carinderia Fiesta in 2011. Buhay Carinderia’s advocacy is aimed at helping the people involved in running carinderias and showcasing their dishes and style of cooking to a greater audience.

Partnering for the first time with Marylindbert International, the Tourism Promotions Board of the Department of Tourism will make this culinary event nationwide. From Vigan to Davao, they will look for the best dishes in each region and the talented carinderia cooks who prepared them.

Buhay Carinderia will be a 9 month long culinary expedition. Northern Luzon and Cordillera region will be the first to be visited and then on June 28 to 29 at Vigan Convention Center, local culinary experts will gather to share their cooking style, recipes and also share their food techniques to chosen students. Same event will be happening on other regions particularly in San Fernando Pampanga, Naga, Cebu and lastly in Davao.

Linda Legaspi of Marylindbert International, Inc said that ‘This event which might as well be one of the most important food expositions in our country. Well acknowledged that the union between gastronomy and tourism can provide a platform to revitalize our culture, preserve tangible and intangible heritage and empower communities.’

‘This time we will look at this little but thriving carinderias all over our country and put the remarkable efforts in the spotlight and let their success stories be an inspiration to the next generation of cooks and entrepreneurs. Mga kaibigan, Buhay Carinderia Redefined is here to redefine our lives, our Filipino culture, our heritage and our food.’ added Linda Legaspi.

‘We from Tourism Promotions Board, we believe that Philippine culinary is not limited to the people who can afford it. This time, Buhay Carinderia Redefined will be reaching out to the grassroots.. So through this event, we hope to give the lowly carinderia to an entirely new meaning, one that is innovative, dynamic and relatable. We are confident that we can reawaken strong understanding and appreciation of the Filipino culture and create an engaging interest of Filipino street food with the end in view of increasing visits to the country.’ shares Cesar Montano, COO of Tourism Promotions Board.

Puto at Kutsinta and Lugaw served at the media lauch.

Erwan Heusaff was also present in the event as the official content creator for Buhay Carinderia Redefined. He will be creating videos showcasing the culinary heroes such as the carinderia cooks and owners.

"I’m very excited, we will be doing a couple of videos featuring some of the best and maybe some of the least known carinderias around the country. We’ll be able to showcase this to various platforms online through videos, pictures and really give them the attention that I think they truly deserve." says Erwan.
