This is my photo coverage of the exhibit opening of Cory: Isang Pagpupugay exhibit at SM Mall of Asia. The event was well attended by friends and family of Cory Aquino. Press Photographers and media personnel did a great job in covering the historical funereal services for Cory Aquino. Top photographers from international and national news agencies pay tribute to the late President Cory Aquino in a week-long photo exhibit dubbed “Cory: Isang Pagpupugay,” which opens on 5pm, September 9, the 40th day of the iconic leader’s demise, at the SM Mall of Asia.
The exhibit will feature photos from the five-day funeral services for Aquino which have appeared in major international and national publications, and some unpublished pieces.
Chief photographers from four international news agencies – Bullit Marquez from Associated Press, Erik de Castro of Reuters, Ted Aljibe of Agence France Presse, and Dennis M. Sabangan of European Pressphoto Agency – who have extensively covered the series of events from Day 1, conceptualized the exhibit.
“We were awed and inspired by the great images we got, especially the outpouring of emotions and support. Of course, the late president herself was an inspiration, given the legacy of democracy that she left us. It was simply impossible to ignore that,” Marquez said.
The exhibit will feature 60 large prints courtesy of Kameraworld, and a digital slideshow of about a hundred more moving images from the various events.
Other photographers whose works will be featured in the exhibit include Ernie Sarmiento, Joan Bondoc, Rem Zamora, and Lyn Rillon of Philippine Daily Inquirer; Val Rodriguez, Joven Cagande and Ed Gumban of Philippine Star; Tony Pionilla, Rudy Liwanag, Linus Escandor, Robert Viñas, Ali Vicoy and Roel Umali of Manila Bulletin; AJ Rosales of Manila Times; Aaron Favila of Associated Press; Bobby Ranoco and Cheryl Ravelo-Gagalac of Reuters; Jay Directo and Noel Celis of Agence France Presse; Rolex dela Peña, Francis Malasig and Alanah Torralba of European Pressphoto Agency; and freelancers Noli Yamsuan, Egay Montana and Jay Morales.
