Close to 100 of the toughest, most innovative, and intense dance crews in the country sized each other up as the Skechers Streetdance Battle Year 5 officially opened with a huge kick-off party last September 19. Competing teams, street dance enthusiasts, and spectators crowded the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall to witness the much-awaited opening of the 5th installment of the country’s biggest, toughest, and hottest streetdance competition.
The crowd was treated to a ground-breaking dance collaboration from the highly talented crews of Pinoy Funk’in Style, Unschooled, Legit Status, and GrooveJackz. After a roll call of this year’s long list of battling crews, the event shifted to high gear with a special performance from the defending college champs—DLSU’s La Salle Dance Company – Street. This was followed by a Skechers dance fashion show that featured the best and latest offerings from the global footwear brand—including hot new collections
like PUNK ROSE by Skechers—which featured vibrant color combinations and get-noticed prints as its trademark, and SHAPE-UPS, from the Skechers Fitness Group.
The models likewise showed off a Limited Edition line of Skechers Streetdance Battle 5 graphic tees. Skechers customers can get one of these collector’s shirts for free with a Skechers shoe or Skechers Time

Hosted by DJ Mo Twister, the kick-off party was also highlighted by an intense freestyle showdown that energized the huge crowd. Each competing crew fielded two of their best dancers for a high-powered 30-second freestyle exhibition.
The party was capped off by a lively performance from Pedicab, while some of the dance crews got into a spontaneous showdown that turned the Music Hall into a dance battle field.
