Exclusive Bob Dylan interview in Jeepney Magazine’s 2010 Calendar

Haven't encountered this Jeepney Magazine but it is very promising and the good part is that the part of magazine profit goes to the vendor. This way, the jeepneys and street vendors can earn extra with the magazine.

Both cultural icon and counterculture iconoclast, Bob Dylan has at various times revolutionized folk, rock, country and gospel music. This holiday season, he is going traditional.

Bob Dylan is releasing “Christmas in the Heart,” an album filled with sincere renditions of age-old favourites. Proceeds from the record will be donated to organizations around the world to help with hunger and homelessness. Read more about Bob Dylan and his new creative offspring in Jeepney Magazine’s commemorative 2010 calendar, now available.

Jeepney Magazine is the first street paper in the Philippines and in developing Asia. Street papers are independent newspapers and magazines that provide unique livelihood opportunities especially to the socially excluded. To date, there are more than 200 titles around the world.

Jeepney Magazine is the first magazine in the country published to communicate the voice of the poor, and where all the post investment profits go to the vendors from vulnerably housed communities. Vendors buy a copy of the magazine at a price 50 percent lower than the cover price and sell it to the public, keeping the proceeds. This allows Jeepney magazine vendors to make a 100 percent profit, and hopefully, earn more than the Philippine minimum wage in a day.

Aside from the street paper-exclusive Bob Dylan interview, the Jeepney magazine 2010 commemorative calendar features dynamic photos of the Philippine delegation to the Homeless World Cup held in Milan, Italy. The calendar provides vibrant and colorful images capturing the beauty of the games, and the amazing triumph of the players, who prove that being born into poor economic conditions does not equate to a life defined by poverty of spirit. Pictures not only include some great football actions but also emotions poured out by the teams and supporters celebrating the success of Team Philippines, which ranked top 32 in the world and considered best of Asia!

Just like the magazine, 50 percent of the Jeepney 2010 calendar will benefit the vendors from the marginalized sectors. You can visit www.thejeepney.com for a posting of areas where Jeepney magazine is sold.

Get a great calendar, help change a life, and be reminded of the triumph of the human spirit. Making a difference doesn’t get any easier than this. Have a merry Jeepney Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
