Manila begins the celebration in Asia for Earthdance 2010, a Global Peace Festival celebrated in over 500 locations in 80 countries. On September 18-19 from 3pm to 8am, Earthdance Manila will broadcast to the world live via EarthdanceTV 17 hours of non-stop dance, music, live art, Wellness and Dance Workshops, an Eco Bazaar and Green Elixirs, Indigenous Rituals and Healing ceremonies. (more below)

The event will culminate with the Global Synchronized Prayer for Peace at 7am Manila- 4pm California - 8pm Sao Paulo - 12 midnight London - 9am Sydney-The whole world, of every race, and religion will all be praying at the same time. Bantayog ng mga Bayani Memorial Center, home of the Martial Law period unsung heroes is this year’s venue to rekindle the fire of a nation united in its desire for peace, justice and democracy. By bringing Earthdance Manila to Bantayog ng mga Bayani, the alliance between spirituality and social activism is cast in stone, paving the way towards Bantayog ng mga Bayani’s Silver Anniversary in 2011.

This year’s global theme “Embracing All Traditions,” is the perfect opportunity to shine the spotlight on the multi-faceted gemstone that makes up the Philippine culture. Indigenous and Tribal Leaders from Mindanao to the Mountain Province; artists of various genres from World Music to techno, electronica, jazz, and hiphop will jam and fuse their styles; Fire dancers, the Pangalay Artists Circle, and other traditional and ethnic dances will all collide in a delightful melting pot of cultures, faiths, art forms, music and dance. True to the Filipino Bayanihan spirit, artists share their talents for free. Artists like Kadangayan, Nyko Maca with DJ Robby Sanchez of Peace Pilipinas, and Joey Ayala head the stellar line up of performers and guarantee all night dancing.

Earthdance Manila is also a convergence of advocacies. SEARICE will be promoting their No2GMO with a free feast of eggplant dishes from all over the country; Hare Krishna will demonstrate a true labor of love as they pray and chant while cooking up spectacular vegetarian dishes to fire up the artists’ energy for the whole event; Peace Pilipinas 100 DJ’s will spins music throughout the night while jamming with Tribal drummers, and Joey Ayala’s Bagong Lumad Foundation, partners up with Earthdance Manila for the ISAling Lahi Project- books and audio books of the various tribes and indigenous communities documenting their culture rooted in a deep connection with the environment through songs, stories, and values. “Isalin” literally means to pass on, “Isali” means to accept, to include, while “ISA” emphasizes the oneness of all the islands of this archipelago as a nation, and its vital connection to the global community. It aims to preserve the fast-disappearing culture of our Indigenous Peoples with a “counter-attack” of disseminating the books and audio books all over the Philippines and abroad.

And while this year’s theme focuses on the Indigenous People, Earthdance Manila continues to advocate for the Environment, Children and the Youth, and Human Rights. An Eco Bazaar will showcase the products of organic farming, food and cuisine, and most importantly, local craftsmanship. Green Elixirs from organic tapuy to fruit wines from, crystal charges drinks, fruit shakes and concoctions will also be available at the event to promote an organic lifestyle that is not harmful to the environment. The Children’s Magical Hour will offer an interactive multi-arts performance for all the young at heart inclusive of amazing storytelling via shadowplay and animated art, live music to sing-along and dance-along to awesome transforming large scale-murals. The families of the unsung heroes of Bantayog ng mga Bayani are also invited to the event to witness the making of a sacred mandala, a large scale artwork made of flowers, seeds, and other natural materials offered with intentions of peace and healing.

Free Informal Workshops in Pangalay, Poi dancing, belly dancing, tribal drumming and more cultivate the passion for sharing and learning in a free-flowing, relaxed and fun environment.

Earthdance Manila sees itself growing organically by developing and giving a space to showcase the talent and world-class musicality of the Filipino people; by building a network of advocates of peace, the environment, the youth, human rights, and indigenous peoples; by cultivating a culture of sustainability, artistic expression and most importantly, by giving everyone a thousand reasons to dance as One Nation and One Global Community!
