This blog post is a short tribute to theater-tv-movie actor Dolphy our King of Comedy in the Philippines. Last night’s announcement on TV is a big shock for me, Last Monday me and my friends were walking in front of Makati Medical Center, and one of my blogger friend mentioned that Dolphy is still in there. We noticed the newly painted walls of the building, it was colorful and the building looks newly built. Then I remember my 1st ever meet up with Dolphy last 2009, it was a press con and promotion for his movie “Nobody But Juan”.
All media and bloggers were waiting for Dolphy’s arrival, the venue of the press con is located at the house of movie producer Mother Lily. As he enters the hall, all media and cameramen welcomed our comedy king and then he started answering questions about his health, lovelife and his upcoming movie. I didn’t got the time to talk to him because everyone are prepared with questions and some of my questions were already asked by the media. Mother Lily showed up and escorted Dolphy inside the hall. I went back to his side and started taking lots of photos.
I’m a little bit shaky because I’m star strucked to see Dolphy in person, I’m a fan ever since I started watching TV, and have watch starting from John en Marsha up to Pidol’s Wonderland.
He talked in a calm manner and I didn’t know that this is his come back appearance after 2 years of rest, he got hospitalized years ago and that year 2009, he is back in shape and want to do more movies, He mentioned that he loves acting and doing movies and tv series, it’s his passion and there’s nothing else for him to do, staying at home is boring and he want to do more sitcoms and comedy movies and give laughter and smiles to all audiences, all of us were happy to see him and after this interview, I got a nice photo op with Dolphy. and then a short video interview - http://azraelsmerryland.blogspot.com/2009/12/message-to-all-my-blog-readers-from.html
me and Dolphy
During this interview, something fell on the ground, and we wondered what was that, and all media people looked on the floor and see if someone have dropped their cellphones, while we look at the floor, Mr. Dolphy picked up that object and he immediately keep it inside his pocket, he told us don’t worry, its just my inhaler. Then he started answering back the questions from the media. He also mentioned about his Sampaguita actor friends who are gone, but he is still happy that he’s doing a movie with 2 fellow Sampaguita actor for this movie – he mentioned Gloria Diaz and Eddie Garcia. (na star struck din ako kay Eddie Garcia…I’m a fan also of his action movies)
At the press con, I got busy taking all photos of the celeb, I’m seated at the other end of the function room and didn’t got a nice photo of Dolphy during the press con, I forgot to take many photos that time because I got amused and busy laughing when Dolphy answered some of questions related to his lovelife and invitations to politics, and he joked also about that National Artist Awards, i f he didn’t get it…he’s ok to have the Make up Artist Awards. hahaha.
In April 2010, Dolphy is back in the small screen under TV5, they launched a tv series starring Dolphy and his kids in Pidol’s Wonderland. When I receive the invitations, I included it in my must coverage mission for that day, but I arrived so late that night and I’m glad that the press con haven’t started.
Great to see him again after 5 months
Here’s screen cap of his tv series – on screen with comedian Long Meija and Brad Pete, Brad also worked with Dolphy during the John en Marsha series as one of the writers.
There are few media that time, and the function room is small, here I get a nice photo of Dolphy, in this scene, we see him sitting quietly and listens to the questions of the media. They gave Dolphy a jacket because the room is so cold.
Dolphy looking at my camera lens, I waved at him and told him its great to see him again (not sure if he can remember me taking that funny video blog message to my blog readers) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMGc-kzoUhY
Funny man
One of the many faces of Dolphy
I’m happy that he is back doing tv sitcoms and then after some years he did two more movies. The movie with Vic Sotto is very epic!
Looking back to my hard drive and searched for this stock photos, I realized that this will be the last appearance of Dolphy captured by camera, I was hoping to see him again and get an autograph from him, Last night, he died and rest in peace. I will miss him…I started watching those YouTube movie clips earlier and it still gives me a great laugh, according to him via a TV interview, he wants the people to remember him laughing and smiling and not crying…
