Visita Iglesia in Cebu part 4 - Church of San Miguel Arcangel (Argao)
Tuesday, March 30, 2010
Church of San Miguel Arcangel is in Argao, Cebu. The church position is facing the sea, because the bell tower of the church serves as a watch tower for incoming boats and enemy during the war.The wall of the church is made of coral stones, this is the primary building blocks of the church and coral stones are mainly used in building structures like churches in the old times. The ceiling of Church of San Miguel Arcangel has lots of painting that shows some biblical images that guides the locals, the church built on year 1783.Also I just learned that the church is a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage, but then it is impossible to be included because the main altar and statue were decorated and colored it with gold, the original polychrome statue were already gone. In the new elected mayors and assigned priest should learn on how to preserve heritage in their town, so that we can avoid disasters like this.
