check out below for the photo coverage and video interview
Last Tuesday was the evening for the long gown competition of the Miss Earth 2008. The event was held inside the PAGCOR Theater in Paranaque City. I’m so excited to attend and watch the evening event and also witness on how they will present those lovely Miss Earth 2008 candidates wearing their glamorous long gown. The competition is very tough and they got maybe around 15 judges seated infront of the stage, armed with pencils and tabulation paper. I got a little bit late on the target meet up and after a few minutes of my arrival in PAGCOR I was guided by Mr. Gary Viray of PAGCOR to join with the rest of the group to have dinner at the VIP area, I was with Ms. Janette Toral and Mila of PAGCOR, we had our dinner there and waited for the others to arrive. ( read more below after the link) I’m still puzzled that day and clueless on what will be the turn out of the program, but Mr. Viray told me that they didn’t know and we will be inside in a few minutes after our dinner to find out on what will be its turn out, and got so excited and prepared myself on how to take good photos of the candidates and save my appreciation of their gown style and projection. We entered the venue already and seated in the front, I was with Ken who armed himself with a Nikon D40 DSLR, and me a little baby camera Olympus SP 500 UZ, I got carried away and got very confident in my camera gear after seeing those professional photographers seated infront of us and behind us, they are armed with super zoom powered lenses and also high tech camera, a kind of camera that every photo-hobbyist would dream to have. After testing some shots, I just discovered, that my Energizer batteries failed, and I suspected that one of the batteries got discharged and affected the other batteries, and then I heard a tick tick tick sound from my camera and that signals to me that my batteries are depleting rapidly, and after a few minutes my camera shutdown.
I began to panic, but I calm myself a little as I pull out a Everyready alkaline gold label extra battries and 4 of them are working fine, but I just save those extra energies for the main show, too bad that I can’t use a lot of flash, because It might drain the batteries and I must get a hold of it till the end of the show. Everything work perfectly as I did a total of 450 shots all in all, using no flash and into multi shooting, the zoom in feature of camera did a great job, and because that I don’t have any flash, I used the lighting of the stage and also take advantage of using those slave flashes from the photographers. It was great, but I just noticed that there are some shots that are blurry, then next I found out that my camera got moisted, maybe because that I forgot to clean it and check it after going down from a taxi with airconditioned, but I’m glad that it didn’t affected a lot of photos.
So I learned from today’s event is that I should charge my batteries properly, come on time, bring lots of batteries, and clean the camera and oh… bring an extra memory card, my XD card got full that time but I’m glad that Lace allowed me to bring her Casio Exilim camera that did the work for my photo op and also video blog.
The event started at 8pm and I’m not sure if it is really 8pm, but the presentation was great and they have 3 batches of candidates catwalking with their long gown entry. It was the best and they are very lovely and gorgeous. I’m still having a hard time checking out my favorite long gown, but my eyes started to check out Ms. Canada, Greece, England and Philippines, which I met them at the Clear Black Party last October 31. But I didn’t know that I’ll be focusing to Ms. Peru, Mexico and Venezuela that evening, I just did a great interview with them, did a little chat and also have a photo op with them. They are so lovely and it was a great opportunity to hear their excitement, their goals, their dreams and wishes , and also their advocacy for saving mother nature. The Miss Earth pageant is not all about beauty and brains, but its all about a cause to save the environment and to save planet Earth, all of us here are living in one planet, and we need to take a big attention to all problems and also give time to payback and take care of our natural environment and resources.
Miss Venezuela won the long gown competition, Miss Mexico, Philippines, Panama also won some special awards. Everyone are excited and don’t ever miss the live telecast of the coronation night on November 9 in ABS CBN. The coronation night will be held in Clark Pampanga.
I like to thank PAGCOR and also Digital Filipino for the invitation .
