Playboy Philippines magazine - April 2009 anniversary issue unveiled at the Bloggers Party

Here's a video coverage by

Playboy Philippines, host and sponsor of the night out party for bloggers just unveiled the cover of their anniversary issue last night in Source Bar. The April 2009 issue cover features the Playmates of April 2008- March 2009.

To celebrate and unravel the new image of Playboy Philippines which is all about a classy and smart lifestyle, Playboy Philippines just hosted an exclusive night of mingling, dining, and partying - bloggers' style.

Bloggers got the first to feel the difference and taste of the new flavour of Playboy Philippines magazine as it moves away from the stereotype of the usual men's magazine into a sophisticated, classier men's lifestyle magazine.

- more photos below

thanks to FAD for publishing and sharing the pics to their blog website, I just like to answer their post = " “Azrael” was at the Playboy Philippines anniversary last Friday and he’s happy to report that he survived it. They tried to kill him with boring things and a boring venue, but they failed! "

well, I like to correct that I enjoyed the event, because all my friends were there and meeting new people from the local blogging circle is fun and also I co-organized the bloggers party and not the anniversary party, Playboy Philippines is kind to host a party for us bloggers. The event is not boring, many people enjoyed our program that is hosted by me. I can tell, because I was there and saw many are happy that we have our own bloggers party.

Join PLAYBOY Philippines as it celebrates its first birthday with its biggest issue ever! Photographer KRISTINE SOGUILON lenses the magazine’s most ambitious cover yet, leading into a nautical-themed pictorial, All Hands On Deck, featuring our previous Playmates guaranteed to shiver anyone’s timbers. To document this historic shoot, we take readers Inside: Behind the Scenes of a PLAYBOY Pictorial for a special look into the work that became a labour of love for all involved. We also tag along for the Playmate Anniversary Getaway, where our girls take some well-deserved time to themselves. In the spirit of celebration, two of Deal or No Deal’s 26K Girls, ANDREA SHIN and RUBY BASCO take center stage as our Anniversary Playmates of the Month. Also exclusively, for the first time in the Philippines, we are proud to present TETCHIE AGBAYANI’s legendary pictorial, straight from the German edition's archives. Sitting down with us for 20 Questions is Senator GRINGO HONASAN, speaking on his experiences on both sides of the law. Rounding off the month is an excerpt from legendary screenwriter RICKY LEE’s recently-released first novel “Para Kay B: Ester”. Living up to PLAYBOY’s status as the ultimate men’s lifestyle magazine, we present for this month features on Andropause (the male version of menopause), and what to ask your tailor for when buying the perfect suit. It’s our birthday, ladies and gents, and you won’t believe what we’ve got coming up.

A lot can happen in a year, and Heaven knows the last 12 months have been nothing, if not tumultuous, for the global economy. We in the magazine business certainly haven’t been immune: Every day, we read or hear about publications folding or opting for the online route. We at PLAYBOY believe there’s something to be said for the written word that you can hold in your hand (to say nothing of the inherent joy of physically opening a Centerfold).

I realize I would be remiss if I didn’t admit to the birthing pains that we experienced (and continue to experience, to some extent) starting out, but I would be outright negligent if I didn’t make mention of the outstanding work being put out by my core editorial team. Over the past few months, they have never ceased to impress me with their tireless energy, ability and outright enthusiasm that shows on every page of the magazine you now hold.

As we graduate from our freshman status and enter our sophomore year, I thank our readers, who have been with us since the beginning. For your loyalty, your letters, and most especially your criticisms, I thank you. For those of you picking us up for the first time, welcome to the family.

Believe me when I say, ladies and gentlemen, we’re just getting started.

Adam Penn

In 1953, Hugh Hefner created PLAYBOY and, in the process, set the standard by which all subsequent men’s magazines would be judged.

Irreverent, yet never immature; Sexy, yet never lewd, PLAYBOY would deliver on its promise of being the ultimate men’s lifestyle magazine, featuring entertainment, politics, culture, humor and sex - all presented with a sophistication and intelligence uncommon to men’s publications before or since.

PLAYBOY’s groundbreaking combination of lifestyle and editorial content has featured contributions from some of the most important names of the journalistic, business and entertainment worlds, including Marshall McLuhan, Carl Bernstein, Bob Woodward, Alex Haley, Martin Luther King, Jr. (his last published work before his death), Shel Silverstein, Lenny Bruce, David Halberstam, Nat Hentoff, P.G. Wodehouse, Vladimir Nabokov, James Baldwin, Kenneth Tynan, Herbert Gold, T.C. Boyle, Ken Purdy, W. Somerset Maugham, Vladimir Nabokov and Gore Vidal, as well as local writers and Palanca Award winners, Butch Dalisay, Krip Yuson, Mike Marasigan and Susan S. Lara.

Literary icons who have had their works published in the pages of PLAYBOY, many exclusively, include Stephen King, Chuck Palahniuk, Ian Fleming, Roald Dahl, Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, Jack Kerouac, Arthur C. Clarke, Ray Bradbury, Joyce Carol Oates, Tom Clancy, Margaret Atwood, Michael Crichton and John Updike.

PLAYBOY has featured some of the most beautiful women in the world, from its girl-next-door Playmates to celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Cindy Crawford, Charlize Theron, Jessica Alba, Denise Richards, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Pamela Anderson, Ursula Andress, Kim Basinger, Shannen Doherty, Brooke Burke, Gena Lee Nolin, Charisma Carpenter, Drew Barrymore, Daryl Hannah, Naomi Campbell, Bo Derek, Katarina Witt, Stephanie Seymour, Farrah Fawcett and Sharon Stone.

PLAYBOY Interview and 20 Questions subjects are the movers and shakers of their chosen fields. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Fidel Castro, Jimmy Hoffa (Hoffa's last interview before his disappearance), Jimmy Carter, Yasser Arafat, Muhammad Ali, The Beatles, John Lennon, Miles Davis, Edu and Luis Manzano, Ryan Cayabyab, Tetchie Agbayani, Gloria Diaz, Atty. Felipe Gozon, Chavit Singson, Sen. Chiz Escudero, Sen. Gringo Honasan, and Imelda and Ferdinand Marcos, have all taken their turns, speaking candidly on anything and everything that came to mind.

Carnival Fun with Hello Kitty at Robinsons Malls

I'm going to post this here because I love Hello Kitty and I want to share this great event to all, and found a post of this event at the Gift Gate multiply page . Feel free to check the poster for target dates and venues. I might visit one of their event hubs and post a photo coverage of the event here in my blog.

I guess March 28 is the best date for a coverage. They didn't mention the time, I guess the start of the carnival might be during mall hours, starting 10am-8pm.

What branch and date are you coming ?

SM Marikina bloggers event - wifi testing and live blogging featured in Qtube QTV

Here's the video featured of the largest live blogging event in the Philippines, thanks to Qtube, SM Marikina, and the bloggers for making the event possible. Sorry for the bad quality of the recorded video, I just used my camera phone in recording it from the TV and didn't noticed that the electric fan is causing lots of audio distortions. They mentioned 200 bloggers at the event, but the estimated numbers of bloggers who were there is at around 300, thanks to walk in bloggers from the mall.

there might be another live blogging event, just stay tuned here for more info.

Animax Asia is going to make another world's first history and I know every anime fans and otakus will be happy to hear this big news. Tears to Tiara and Fullmetal Alchemist - Brotherhood will debut across Asia on Animax and it is a same-time and same-week broadcast respectively.

Animax Asia will air Tears to Tiara and its the firs series to be aired same-time simulcast tv series that will premiere on April 6, 2009, Monday 12:25am on Animax, and simultaneous to the series 1:35am (Tokyo) debut in Japan. After 4 days of the world premiere of Tears Tiara, the 2009's most-anticipated blockbuster anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist-Brotherhood will debut on Animax Asia inthe same-week broadcast that will premiere on April 10, 2009, Friday at 8:30pm with each new episode airing within six days of its premiere in Japan.

April 6, 2009 will be another big hit in the history of anime tv here in Asia, and Animax Asia is the World's first broadcaster to offer brand new anime series outside Japan in a same-time simulcast, meaning that we will enjoy and watch new anime here in our cable tv, even they premiered it in Japan at the same date and time. Animax Asia will host the tv premiere of Tears to Tiara across Asia, that is simultaneous with Chiba TV in Japan.

“The inaugural deal to bring Tears to Tiara to Animax viewers across Asia simultaneous with viewers in Japan is a milestone not only for Animax Asia, but also for the anime business as the speed of international broadcast is brought to its pinnacle. We are very proud to provide viewers with what was previously seemingly impossible,” said Gregory Ho, Vice President & General Manager, Animax Asia.

Promising enthralling characters, beautiful artwork, and an exciting storyline complete with spellbinding powers and epic battles, Tears to Tiara draws its inspiration from the gaming arena where it originates as a captivating fantasy role-playing game on the PC and Sony PlayStation 3 platforms. Although the ritual fails and Riannon survives, Arawn’s seal is broken and resurrected. Armed with mysterious and devastating powers as well as a human’s demeanour, Arawn joins Riannon, her brother and battalion commander Arthur, along with their team of fighters comprising a swordsman, an archer and a quintet of pixies, in an epic struggle against the Divine Empire.

Fullmetal Alchemist – Brotherhood is set in a fictional world where alchemy – the transmutation of raw materials into objects – is science and the way of life. The brand new anime series is based on Hiromu Arakawa hit manga series which follows the well-loved Elric brothers Edward and Alphonse on their perilous journey in search of the legendary Philosopher’s Stone. They set forth in the hope that the magical artefact can restore their bodies after a failed alchemy experiment to revive their dead mother cost Edward’s left leg and right arm; as well as Alphonse’s entire body, leaving his soul affixed to a suit of armour.

Production for Fullmetal Alchemist – Brotherhood was undertaken by anime studio BONES which made the original Fullmetal Alchemist series, and is directed by Yasuhiro Irie who also helmed Kurau: Phantom Memory, Soul Eater, episodes of Alien Nine and RahXephon, as well as animation sequences in the first Fullmetal Alchemist series.

Hiroshi Ohnogi (Macross Zero) leads script development while Hiroki Kanno (Yu Yu Hakusho The Movie: Poltergeist Report) takes on character design, with music by Akira Senju (Mobile Suit Victory Gundam). Well-loved voice talents Paku Romi and Rie Kugimiya, winner of the ‘Best Lead Actress’ at the Third Annual Seiyū Awards for her part in Shakugan no Shana, are reprising their roles as protagonists Edward and Alphonse Elric respectively.

With a story spun off from the manga series, the previous Fullmetal Alchemist anime series was broadcast in 2003 and was voted the most popular anime of all time in Japan in two online polls by Japanese broadcaster TV Asahi. Its theatrical sequel Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa debuted 2005 to great critical acclaim including ‘Animation Of The Year’, ‘Best original story’ and ‘Best music’ awards at the 2005 Tokyo Anime Fair; the ‘2005 Animation Grand Award’ prize from the Mainichi Film Awards; as well as the ‘Best Animated Film’ honour at Canada’s Fantasia International Film Festival.

Wolfgang is the night tonight

I just want to post this and question myself that - " what I am doing here? I haven't seen any Wolfgang concert or live performance ever in my life".

Wolfgang is the next rock band I like and I'm a big fan of the band since the years of cassette tapes and long hair head banging music and sounds. I just let go 2 or 3 live concerts of Wolfgang and now I'm letting go another concert and kinda sucks that I already forgot to get a ticket and I really want to watch it and maybe this is my last chance to see them perform live. But I am now hoping that there will be another concert and I am promising myself not to let it go again.

I just don't remember how I discover Wolfgang in my music history, maybe the FM rock radio channel gives a big follow up and influence to grab their album. I like their old albums and I live to listen to it even if they have new music this generation. I remember that I record on tape their concert act in Mendiola, the live performance was broadcasted via FM radio, but sad to say that my cassette tape is lost and I think our neighboring driver took it in our vehicle during my high school years. It kinda sucks to know that guy, our driver, stole it from our car cassette player. I remember too, that I even record on video VHS some of their live performance hahhaha, I'm not sure what show or event, but the performance was great on TV.

Here's a funny scene that I almost fainted, I was with my balikbayan cousin and got invited to visit his family friend who lives in Alabang, then we got in to his friend's carpool and drove all the way to Alabang, we got invited to join them with their friends and brothers in one house in Alabang, then my cousin's friend told me that if I ever listen and like Wolfgang, then I replied, "yeah! I love the band, actually I just listened to their 2nd album at home this morning", then she replied "you know Manuel?", then I said " yeah, the guitar guy of Wolfgang", and she said "he's my cousin!", and I said, "whoaaaaa" , and she said " we're going to their house to have some fun", and after hearing it, I almost melted in my seat inside the car ahhahahhaa. Then there I found out that they cut their long hairs and it was the first appearance way before on media or event to discover that they now sported a new look, short hair Wolfgang. I met Manuel and then I just can't believe that we play SuperNES Mario Cart aahhahah.

The most embarassing thing is that, I look like a mute for the whole hour and shocked! But those old times were different, you see that I'm not that talking and if ever there's a blog during those late 90's I might even write about it and blog it here haahaha. But glad that blogging funny memories still rocks!

btw, Wolfgang will be having a concert tonight March 19, 2009 at the Music Museum, for tickets and concert details visit

Kadin” directed by Adolf Alix, Jr.
March 19 (Thursday); 4PM

An Ivatan boy journeys through the Island of Sabtang, Batanes to look for their family’s only source of income- a goat which has gone astray.

Brutus” directed by Tara Illenberger
March 20 (Friday), 12 NN

"Brutus" is a fictionalized retelling of facts about the environmental degradation of Mindoro: two Mangyan teen-agers are paid by illegal loggers to smuggle wood to the lowlands. They hide them underneath a bamboo raft and float them for several days through dangerous white water. What follows is a journey that tests their friendship and their values; and opens up their eyes to a world new to them; a world dictated by ideologies and material need.

Abong” directed by Koji Imaizumi
March 20 (Friday), 4 PM

"ABONG" means small home in some mountain tribes.
"ABONG/Small Home" is an epitome of this world besieged by natural and human influences, poverty and affluence, mercy and intolerance. While gently depicting the life and familial bonds of a Japanese-Filipino family - the plentiful life of their Igorot tradition contiguous with nature and the poverty and loneliness they face in the city - this movie splendidly constructs an allegorical world of satire.

Tribute Event for Francis Magalona (with no permission from Magalona's family)

I felt really bad to found out that some people are making money and using Francis Magalona's name, they should not do that and I know Francis's family will be hurt if they found it out, and then they just did! I just saw that this incident will happen in the near future, but didn't expected that it will happen days after the funeral.

I was offered to do a tribute event weeks ago, but I told the guy that they should ask permission first from the family, and I don't want to get in trouble, because the event idea is good and perfect, and organizing an event is very easy.

Making a tribute event is good, especially if the family will benefit from it. But if people are organizing events and using someone's name is not good.

The family of the deceased has the right to complain and request to cancel the event with the organizers. I just hope that this incident will not happen here in the Philippines. And this post might help the people be aware, especially events organizers that we should not take advantage on someone's death and use the name in making lots of money.

im just sharing this via facebook posts.. thanks MJ

read below to know the details and people and the Magalona's reaction about the unofficial tribute event

- check out the peoples comment here

"Let us shame these scammers into giving Francis M's family the respect they deserve as his heirs. They should not be allowed to use his image in any event without permission from the family. This is what Maxene said in her Note. Please spread this around so that it may get to the people in that area so that they do not support this fraud." - GR Rodis (Facebook)

"Although we understand that papa influenced millions of people with his work, we don't approve of these gimmicks that pretend to pay tribute to his legacy when it is OBVIOUS that they are merely using him to make money. FRANCIS M.'S FOUNDATION? There's no such thing! Mama never approved of anything like that! If they were honest and true about paying tribute to papa and wanting to earn money for some foundation, they would have done the appropriate thing and respectfully asked my mom for permission. This is like using my dad as a performer in a concert except they don't pay him for it.

Plus, they're selling shirts just like those from my dad's clothing line.. GAYA GAYA! How do these people sleep at night?! PLEASE RESPECT MY DAD AND LET HIM REST IN PEACE. Nakakabastos kayo!

P.S. If any of you discover more events or merchandise similar to this, please bring it to our attention immediately. THANK YOU."
- Maxene

"This is Pia, the late FrancisM's wife.
My attention was called to this site by my daughters and I am quite disappointed that you are holding an event using his name and persona to make money off without my express permission.

Did you even course this through the Philippine NATIONAL Red Cross? If so, why is their name on your invitation wrong? It just says Philippine Red Cross. It's very haphazard. I am terribly, terribly hurt by this. I hope you could respect me and my dearly beloved's memory by not exploiting his death.

What you are doing goes against the values Francis wrote about in his songs. This is exactly what he spoke of when he wrote those lyrics speaking of graft, corruption and greed.
Do the right thing.
God bless,
Pia Magalona"

Edit 1 : March 17
I just found out that event organizer just deleted Pia's comment about the event, and I'm glad that I copied and posted it here in my blog.

I also posted the screenshot of the event and I RSVP just to monitor its activities.

Edit 2-
at 1:32pm , I received this message "Consortium canceled the event "Three Stars and the Sun... A Tribute to Francis Magalona"." and its finally confirmed that the event is cancelled its post in Facebook, but what assurance we get from it?, they can still post this in Myspace or in Friendster or promote their event offline.

We still don't have assurance that this event is cancelled.

The web art of spam tagging

I just learned something tonight and by watching TV I just encountered a word called "spam tagging", what does it mean? hmm for what I understand, this is the art of tagging your members of network of friends at Facebook, and with the new features called "tag" you can easily track a content that is directly mentions you or something that is related to you. But today, many people are over joyed to use the tag features of Facebook. I'm not against to it, but I'm just amazed on this feature and I just tried spam tagging some of friends about this "note" I posted in my Facebook account, which drag them more attention and then they comment for reading it.

In Facebook, the tag feature is limited to 30 persons only, I'm not sure if they will maximize it and I did a little experiment in posting that Eraserheads concert ground photo by Howell Santiago in my Facebook photo album and tagged all my friends who went there, and then they tag back and tagged their friends who were at the concert too, then I promoted the photo in all my networks, then people started to tag themselves and their friends. The low down is that when you posted a comment in my photo, all those people who are tagged will receive this notification and a reply of that comment is visible in the email. It was a genius thing to have that feature and I'm very happy that I can spam tag everyone hhahahaha.

The word spam tag sounds bad and evil, but the fun is in there and this is open only to your network and anonymous people who tag themselves. But you can also moderate everything because the content stays in your account and you can tag almost anyone.

so on the next Facebook post you are making, make sure that you tag a friend that will interest them to read it or to people who are related to the topic.

so..spam tag away jose!

I just learned the original thing after attending the event "Havaianas I am Original" few weeks ago at the North Court of Rockwell Power Plant Mall. The event was hosted by Iya Villana and Mo Twister, it was a jampacked event with bloggers, media and people from the mall, I know many of them are curios about this original project and campaign and also about Rock Ed's involvement.

“There are a lot of socio-civic initiatives out there, but I personally believe that art and creativity is a universal language that is most especially appreciated by today’s kids,” explains Rock Ed founder Gang Badoy. “We wanted to empower them to make a difference within a sphere that they love, like music, film, art—basically anything, and the more original they are with it, the better.”

Parties interested in receiving the Original Grant can send their original project ideas to on or before April 4, 2009. The grant is open to individuals or groups aged 13 to 32 years old. The project ideas must be youth-involved and youth-targeted, and will be judged on their originality, social relevance, impact on the intended beneficiary and the votes that they garner on the multiply site. Gonzalez and Badoy will both serve as judges.

There will be multiple recipients of the grant, from three different divisions: high school, college and professional. The amount to be granted to each body will be determined by the number of people who will pledge their originality during the launch of the Havaianas Original campaign.

Superproxy video - Eraserheads concert - The Final Set

Check out the video of Eraserheads performing "Super Proxy", a tribute song for Francis M, and since Francis M was scheduled to perform the rap song but he died before the March 7 concert. I'm glad that my friend RG recorded the whole segment and I like the quality of it recording the whole song and performance from the big screen. RG said "This video is dedicated in memory of my very good friend, Francis M."

You'll also see me in the video at 1:13, I was busy texting and giving some updated in my blog and in plurk about the concert, but it was the shameless video and I'm afraid that this video will be included in the DVD, if ever they will produce a DVD version of the concert.

He also has this video of "Overdrive" from his blog in RG @ Multiply

Animation, Comics and Toys Festival on the works

I just got back from a meeting and I like to post here that there will be an animation, comics and toys festival this coming April 2009, and sorry that I can't post much details about it, I'm just glad that this event will be a new family addition for the 8th Philippine Toy Con 2009.

Exciting attractions, booths, exhibits, games, cosplay, contest and show for everyone, and for all ages, I just heard that the event is FREE for all, this will be one of the biggest festival and show next to Toy Con, and I'm happy that me and my Toy Con team are part of it and consider it as our sister event for 2009. If this one is successful, expect another round of it on 2010.

Now, my question is, are you going and attend the event ?

8th Philippine Toy Con 2009 production note 3

I'm finalizing now the kit and I'm already a week late for it and my deadline is over and time is running out, but I'm revising lots of layout and also putting new information about the event. The marketing kit is very important in events and this will be your bread in the morning because you need a butter and coffee with it and you better find a good butter and coffee to partner it and have a great morning. I almost losing my heart for Toy Con and I'm still haunted by the trauma I encountered last year, the trauma that almost ended everything and my tantrums are non stop that time. I was thinking minutes ago to text my co-organizers and tell them that I'm losing my heart and spirit for Toy Con. It was a last minute and I was about to reach my phone and think of a good start on how to tell them directly.

But when I was holding my phone, I just browsed Erving Go's photo coverage DVD files of the event and found this group photo of my team. I just remembered the hard work they did and I remember all of them promised to me on day zero that they will work hard and be at their best in helping me man a big ship with 20,000 passengers. They didn't let me down and at the end of the sea trip, we went back home and it was a mission accomplished. I just learned that I wasn't alone at that time and even that my ego attacks me and trauma takes over, they were there with me till the very end of the trip. I finally got my strength back and go back fix this for good and set my own rules and calendar to finish everything.

Thanks to my hard working team for helping me and being there, I'm not sure if they will be there this year, but my role for the main event is still on hold, for I might really get off as a program director of the event after 7 years as a Captain of a 20,000 passengers. But I must find more strength in the coming days, because pre-production time is running out.
