I
mentioned earlier here in my blog about FamilyMart, that convenience store in
Japan is now here in Manila. Their branches are only available in a location
that is owned by Ayala-Rustan, well most of the branches are in Ayala owned
malls. But I need to research more if there are other branches of FamilyMart
that is outside the vicinity of Ayala property. (OK, I just researched that
there’s a branch in Alphaland and in UP Town Center)
I just read this
news that they are planning to put up 300 branches here in our
country.
Japanese retailing chain FamilyMart, a retail store chain
brought to the Philippines by the Ayala and Rustans groups, plans to scale up
its operations to hit 300 stores over the next five years.
For this first year of operations, the target would be to roll out 30
FamilyMart stores in Metro Manila, according to Ayala Land Inc. chief finance
officer Jaime Ysmael.
Ysmael said the group would be open to franchising the brand to
accelerate growth. At the same time, he said the group would put up stores in
various formats.
Capital spending for each convenience store is estimated at P2 million.
Since the retail space would mostly be rented, Ysmael said the cost would be for
store fit-out and inventory. - http://business.inquirer.net/107837/ayala-rustan-retail-venture-eyes-300-stores
Now we have another player in the convenience store business. So what’s the
specialty of FamilyMart ?
A good store visit might explain it. When I
learned that there’s a FamilyMart branch in Glorietta, my wife then told me that
we should visit it, so after our event in Makati Shangri La Hotel, The location
of the store branch is just a walking distance from the hotel, When went there
right after we stepped out of the hotel hahaha.
Here’s
my wife grabbing some cookies and chips, our first batch of goodies ran out
already and our son requested to us that he wants those mini cookies of
