LONG
LIVE THE ROADSTERI got some tears in my eyes when Mazda Philippines
unveiled this beautiful Mazda MX5, it’s a new version and 5th generation after
its first model 25 years ago. Why tears? because it reminded me my younger days
when I first saw these Mazda Miata cars, a two seater car with convertible roof
to open top sports car, I always see this in some Sentai or Japanese sci fi tv
series in local tv and the first Japanese brand that I love and thanks to those
Japanese tv shows that airs in our land during and after Martial Law.
The
official distributor of Mazda in the Philippines, Berjaya Auto Philippines,
didn't wait for another time to pass for the release of the new Mazda MX5 2015,
fans of the Mazda Miata model really dig the new design and also we learned that
this car is the 1st Mazda MX5 to carry the Mazda KODO soul of motion design
philosophy of Mazda and also SKYACTIV tech on a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV gasoline
direct injection engine.
I'm not an expert when it comes to car tech, but I'm starting to learn more
about it when I cover motoring events, the 1st to absorb the awesome tech is
with Mazda.
According to Steven Tan, president and CEO of Mazda Philippines -- “The
all-new MX-5 is the epitome of Mazda’s core ethos of providing pure driving
pleasure on the road, The amount of design and engineering effort that was put
in by Mazda engineers into this latest generation MX-5 is intended to bring back
the first MX-5’s calling to deliver joy in driving. We are confident that the
all-new MX-5 will not only achieve its goals of providing unique top-down
driving experience but will set a new benchmark in providing more smiles not
only to its owners but to everyone who sees the car.”
Side note: 17
people already purchased this car and it was turned over last weekend Aug 8-9 in
BGC, also Mazda MX5 will have a limited run to 100 pcs here in the Philippines
via Mazda Philippines.
Present
at the Mazda MX5 launch are - Masashi Nakayama, the all-new Mazda MX-5’s chief
designer; Hiroshi Inoue, Executive Officer of Mazda Motor Corporation; Hitoshi
Takamatsu, the all-new Mazda MX-5’s deputy program manager for vehicle
development promotion and Tom Matano, designer of the first- and
second-generation Mazda MX-5
Its big studded guesting of top Mazda
personalities and seeing the MX5 chief designers were a star struck to Mazda
fanatics and members of the Miata Club of the Philippines
Yes,
it is really a heart pounding moment to see this car in the flesh. I guess any
Miata style car make our heart tick because of its awesomeness.
Slides
presented during the launch, it’s a throwback moment seeing these cute cars
It
was a bad ass look
even Die cast toy car collectors hunt for these in any
toy store. For me it’s a jackpot when I grab one.
There
are lots of changes for the new Mazda MX5, its much more lighter and it embeds a
lot of new tech
Masashi
Nakayama, the all-new Mazda MX-5’s chief designer was on the panel and he showed
to us his preferred changes and implementation for the new model.
He
explains to us via drawing the position of the seats, the door, convertible roof
and the wheels.
There’s some physics involves and this makes the car more
faster and comfortable to drivers.
Mr.
Nakayama showed to us that he chopped the front and back side of the former MX5
design and the result is to show a much smaller body but with slick body design
that can make it more light weight.
