Its my first time to cover Globe’s Wonderful World event announcement about their upcoming plans, launches of new products, projects and partnership that can revolutionize the industry with their game-changing innovations that can connect the community and country as One Digital Nation.
When I read the word “innovation” and “game changing”, that triggers my interest to attend and see what Globe is up to in terms of providing wired and mobile network service in the country. Im interested because I’m a customer and I want to see which new products and service is fit for me.
The event was held in Marriott Grand Ball Room, one of the grandest and biggest ballroom in the country.
The Wonderful World with Globe 9: One Digital Nation event was attended by local trad and digital media that came from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Looks like everyone are present and it means that this announcement is really big.
Here’s a rundown of GLOBE’s announcements.
GLOBE is number one!
Globe CEO and President Ernest Cu shared to us that Globe stands as the number 1 network provider in the country, He stood at the stage and reported that Globe sells more prepaid SIMS and it serve 53 Million customers since 2015. He mentioned that Globe is the network of choice of smartphone users here in the Philippines.
GLOBE investment for wider coverage and fast connection to data
The most interesting 1st part of the program is that Globe rolls out the investment for the Philippines to become a digital nation, they promised that in the year 2020, there will be better internet experience in all 2 Million homes.
$750 million capex this year is now allotted to deploy fiber optic cables in 20,000 barangays all over the country in order to provide faster and reliable internet access. The built of new infrastructure has a timeline of 5 years to finish and this will extend more network coverage to areas that are dead spot or have poor signal strength.
Network modernization
This means that Globe will say good bye in using copper wires but instead will shift to use fiber optics because that’s the only way to give fast access to data and its already been considered that are ready for future upgrades.
Everything will be modernized, as Globe will also use Sea-US submarine cable system that can connect the country up to Davao and to Macau, they will use fiber technology and 1Gbit transmission equipment that can bring faster connection.
Local Govt slow processing affects GLOBE’s cell site construction
The Globe CEO and President shared to us that building cell sites is not an easy at it is for their company, in 1 cell site they are required to process 25 permits and that took them 8 months to process before proceeding to construction.
It’s a hassle in dealing these permits and other requirements to local government who are so slow in processing the documents needed, and because of this, Ernest wants to shout out for help that if our country wants a better connection, then things should be processed quick and easy because their company are already ready to build a super structure that can give much more better service that can connect us as one digital nation.
GLOBE request for the 700Mhz spectrum utilization
At the end of the Globe CEO’s panel, he mentioned that there’s an existing 700Mhz frequency spectrum that are not being used. They did another shout out that Globe and the other telco company are requesting to open that spectrum to them, share it as one to service everyone to have a wider coverage of their telco’s network.
GLOBE Digital Thumbprint Program
GLOBE’s news advocacy was also launched at this event, they call it the “Digital Thumbprint Program”, it’s a local version of Optus and Singtel’s cyber ethics for high school students that was first launched in Australia.
The program is designed to increase the student’s knowledge of digital citizenship and cyber safety by taking a critical look at their behavior and helping them develop insights into the influences of the online world and the choices they are making.
It’s a new community that is being built for the youths with good ethics for the digital world. As of now, two pilot schools are now in the program – Dasmarinas East National High School in Dasmarinas, Cavite and Sico 1.0 National High School in San Juan, Batangas, they are now receiving education about privacy and security settings on social media platforms.
According to some teachers, the program is good and it benefits not only the students but also the parents, these students can transfer that knowledge to parents and also to everyone. Many wishes that the Digital Thumbprint Program should be included in the curriculum.

GLOBE is now offering a GPS tracking solution for SMEs who wants to track and monitor the movement and status of their vehicles. The myBusiness Tracker is a do it yourself portable GPS tracking solution that enables users to monitor the location of their vehicles and asset in real time.
There’s a command panel window for monitoring the tracking device and see the progress in realtime, tracking depends on mobile network and the tracking device’s battery can last up to 14 hours only.
The service is available at PHP 699 per month, comes with a tracking device, software, and 23 month lock up period.
GOSURF50 upgrades
GLOBE announces the new version of GOSURF50, mobile users can now choose if ever they want a 700MB data connection to consume for 3 days for a price of PHP50, the package comes with a free Youtube, HOOQ, Spotify, Clash of Clans, Facebook and Viber access.
Or they can get the option of a 7 days connection with the use of 350MB data, and comes with free access to the same mobile services.
Users can now share the Gosurf data to another person and roll over unused MBs
GOSAKTO news
The best part for GOSAKTO is that they already included SnapChat in their package. Everyone can now do a custom service of any GLOBE ready made service. You can select how much data you need, what mobile services you will use and also how much you can pay at minimum price.
Captain America: Civil War movie premiere in Singapore
GLOBE announces that they are launching a contest for all subscribers, the grand prize is a trip to Singapore and watch the red carpet premiere of Captain America: Civil War movie.
Just visit any of GLOBE’s sites and network for the mechanics, what I know is that they will pick some winners via hashtag on some Instagram or Twitter contest.
Also, watch out for original merchandise, special events and offers in relation to the upcoming Marvel/Disney movie.
GLOBE Home Broadband starts to offer PHP699
Im a bit shocked that they upgraded or adjusted the pricing for their broadband service. We already acquired a new connection 2 weeks ago and we didn’t see this coming.
The PHP699 plan comes with a 3Mbps speed, comes with a free Chromecast 2 device for streaming movies to your TV, and with 2-3 months free access to partnered mobile services such as HOOQ, Spotify and etc.
GLOBE GOWifi to expand more branches nationwide
This is the best news ever… GLOBE GOWifi will expand and this will be no longer exclusive to an Ayala establishments, GLOBE GoWifi that distributes at least 150Mbps speed will connect everyone if they are in an Ayala Malls, Serendra, Starbucks, NAIA, Puregold, 711, Megaworld establishments and Family Mart
This is free WIFI with a super fast speed that can service a mobile user for 1 hour.
Youtube Accelerator service launched first in the Philippines through GLOBE GoWifi
People who don’t have anything to do online but have a free access via GLOBE GoWifi, can now enjoy Youtube streaming in fast speed connection. The Youtube Accelerator is first launched here in the Philippines and first in the world.
The Youtube Accelerator from Google, stores 150,000 video content and this updates every 23 hours. The users who are connected to GLOBE GoWifi can noticed the Accelerator message after the open their Youtube app. Then there’s a special Accelerator logo on some videos that can enable the user view the videos in super fast buffering. Loading a video on HD is now in swift mode. No lags and no buffer delays if the video bears the Accelerator logo.
