Today: Catbalogan City is hosting the 2017 United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific Conference (UCLG ASPAC)


Catbalogan City, the capital of Samar, is hosting for the 1st time an international conference that will be attended by 100 foreign delegates coming from 19 countries for the  2017 United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific Conference (UCLG ASPAC) this April 4-7, 2017.



Different representatives from cities, local government municipalities in the Asia-Pacific region will share their insights on issues that affect and impact their Asian neighbors, and recommend best practice, doable solutions to top concerns and challenges. Disaster management, climate change, security matters, territorial boundaries are among the many topics to be tackled.

Catbalogan City Mayor Stephanie Uy-Tan said that the city's greatest asset is its people. The city may lack modern structures and facilities, but they are here to welcome everyone and experience Catbalogan's hospitality, courteousness and graciousness spirit.

The conference theme: Kauswagan Kalibutan: Creating Connections for Sustainable Societies seeks to gather commitment of different sectors of participating countries through declarations, workable actions, policy proposals and sustainable programs in issues related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), new urban agenda, local economic development and sustainable development.

This Wednesday, April 5, 2017. The delegates will be on a motorcade and tour around Catbalogan City to get to know the beauty of the city and the life of the people. The delegates will also visit a Science and Technology Fair at  Samar State University.
