Party like a Viking at Crayfish Party in Sofitel Manila this September 8

This September 8, 2018 the vikings will invade Manila! A different kind of party will be introduced and we didn’t know that this party and celebration is going on every year here at Sofitel Manila brought to you by the Nordcham Philippines, a Nordic community here in our country and they want to showcase the Nordic tradition.
A Viking village will be set up as the theme for the celebration and the event will be celebrated by feasting a delicious platter of crayfish on each table - unlimited! That's why they call the event “Kräftskiva” or "Crayfish Party 2018", a typical Swedish festivity that marks the end of summer.

At the Crayfish Party 2018, everyone will be treated to an authentic Nordic dishes, plus unlimited crayfish and a wide array of alcoholic beverages from San Miguel, Martin Miller, Engkanto and Absolut.

We don't know if Vikings can dance, but we do sure their feet will not stop stomping with the live music performed by The Bloomfields, we know that The Bloomfields can play Beatles and sound like them, everyone will go crazy with their tunes while having fun with the food, booze and also party at Sofitel.

Why Crayfish is most highlighted in this event?

here's a short backside story:

Generally referred as the Noble Crayfish, the gastronomic tradition of enjoying crayfish or Astacus Astacus dates back to the 16th century to the time of Swedish King Erik XIV. His highness had farmed crayfish in his moat at Kalmar Castle however it was not until the 19th
century when the tradition of eating crayfish was born.

Enjoying crayfish became popular in Scandinavia marking the end of the summer with a garden party. The party itself became part of the Scandinavian vocabulary in the 1930’s with reference variations including kräftskiva, Rapujuhlat, Krepselag, Vatnakrabbi Oarty or Krebsegilde.

It hasn’t been a smooth sailing journey for the little mudbugs as the Scandinavian flodkräftor were afflicted by the crayfish plague in 1907. A disease that nearly wiped out the species into extinction, the plague prompted the passing of a law that prohibited the fishing of crayfish year-round except during the crayfish season limited to a couple of months starting in August
