Kapihan sa SM City Dasmarinas - Get to know the local history of your town

I've attend my 2nd Kapihan sa SM last October 2019 in SM City Dasmarinas, I supported SM's monthly Kapihan talks or forum event because the topic is very intesting and its all about Cavite and its history. I've live in Cavite for more than 10 years already and I learned only a handful of historical information about Bacoor - the town I live in.

Cavite is very vast and large and the province is known for the capital of man power for many industries, and it is also known for the best coffee and oysters

In extension of the national history month from August. SM City Dasmarinas continues the Kapihan talk at their home court in Dasmarinas, Cavite, and I was there to learn more and also to meet my two kuya  -- on pic: Kuya Robert Alejandro, formerly a tv journalist and now running their business Papemelroti and Kuya Efren Penaflorida Jr.  awarded as one of the CNN Hero because of his passion to teach street kids and now he operates a school that offers free education to kids who want to learn and improve their lives.

Kapihan sa SM is a monthly forum in different branches of SM City in Cavite, last August, SM City Bacoor featured a forum talk discussing about the Agosto 1, 1898 declaration of Philippine Independence Day and now next is in SM City Dasmarinas featuring their local stores with a very interesting history and also more history about the towns in Cavite.

Speakers of the day are:

Ms Cecille Torrevillas Gelicame
Museo de La Salle Director

Dr. Emmanuel Calairo
President, Cavite Histortical Society

Ms Xandra Ramos-Padilla
National Bookstore, Managing Director

Mr Robert Alejandro
Papemelroti, President

Mr Mike Ramil Bala
Expressions, Store Marketing Officer

Mr Jose Marie Chan
Classico Mobilario, Supervisor

I was with our blogger squad from Cavite - Shekinah, Czarina and Nicole, and on pic with Ms. Cathie from SM

Kapihan sa SM is much fun, because we get to enjoy a hot coffee and some Dunkin Donuts while listening to the talks on stage.

Its funny that many people in our FB news feed saw our photos with Dunkin Donuts and some them got a big crave after.  Wow! influencing the FB folks is awesome!

Kapihan sa SM features some of their stores and also their offerings. We have here National Bookstore featuring their Christmas Zone items.

They told us that they are now featuring some items that are a good recommendation for Christmas exchange gifts.

They have toys for kids and lots of quirky items that anyone can have as decor at home or maybe a gift to someone special

National Bookstore offers their Year 2020 Daily Planner.

Im happy that Papemelroti is now expanding their branches here in Cavite. I've seen the new branch in SM City Bacoor.

And now Im happy to see that they have a branch here in SM City Dasmarinas.

Im sure the Gen X, 80s and 90s kids can relate and got some big interest for Papemelroti, because many youngsters from that generate are so addicted in collecting some of the products.

For Millenials, now your chance to appreciate and use some products that are handicrafted, recyclable and artsy.

Papemelroti now collab with some of our local artist and here are some of the products that they offer in every store.

Noon kasi puro papel, ngayon ang dami ng merchandise.

Icons of the art world are now being presented as a pop culture merchandise.  How many artist can you ID ?

Expressions Stationay store is now celebrating their 30th anniverasry, I've also learned that they've organized the biggest art lesson class in the world, and it awards them a Guinness World of Record.

Because daily planners are a trend, Expressions is now selling their own version of a planner. Go check out the Bullet Journal that you can buy for only PHP 299

The Kapihan sa SM started in the mid afternoon and some of the guests here are the local media of Cavite and some bloggers ( 4 lang kami bloggers )

SM invited us to share the news about their event and also some historical fact that we can learn from the Kapihan sa SM event.

Ms Cecille Torrevillas Gelicame , Museo de La Salle Director shared to us about the museum at DLSU-Dasma.

Wow! I didn't know that  DLSU-D have its own museum. The museum houses a big collection of historical artifacts and vintage items that are well preserved and donated by people.

Museo De La Salle is now my focus. Because Im a museum nerd and I got the interest to schedule my self a visit and see their private collections of vintage stuff.

The museum is free for all, but soon they will require entrance fee.
Go check out their website https://www.dlsud.edu.ph/museoDeLaSalle/ for some info
you can call contact them for schedule of visit
email them at museodelasalle@dlsud.edu.ph / call (02) 799 5180 local 3151 or (046) 4811940

I was taking heavy notes on my phone during the talk of Dr. Emmanuel Calairo, President, Cavite Histortical Society. I can say that Im starting to be a fan because I always listen to his talks since 2017 when Agosto 1 of Bacoor was revealed to the public.

There's an interesting story about a man in Bacoor and also a man in Cabanatuan who has a big contribution to our Philippine history during the revolution. But then, my notes are gone! and I can't retrieve it from my fone. sayang! I hope to catch him more at the next Kapihan sa SM

Dr. Calairo is launching a new book about the life story of Gen. Trias.
Oo nga naman, who is Gen Trias. We only know that name as a town here in Cavite.

Dr. Calairo also announced that a new book about Bacoor, Cavite is now released and you can grab a copy for FREE at the Bacoor library

I've learned from Dr. Calairo that people of Cavite is changing and evolving. Because many people from outside Cavite are moving in, the local history of Cavite are starting to fade, because people starts to forget it and seems not to care about its history.

Now the challenge here is to organize a lot of forum and talks like the Kapihan sa SM to share these history and we should never forget its origin.

I totally agree with him... Im not originally from Cavite, but I really want to learn more about the local history and with this blog, I can share and help preserve the original stories from Cavite.

We learned from Ms Xandra Ramos-Padilla, National Bookstore, Managing Director, that the bookstore started in Manila, Im not sure if its in Recto, Manila, but I have a big feeling is is somewhere near Recto ( no I didnt Google this time)

National Bookstore's Gift zone are sold as low as PHP 50!
wow! ayan alam nyo na kung saan kayo kukuha ng pang exchange gift

National Bookstore is part of life ever since we started to go to school. Becasue back then, our parents always go there to buy our school supplies and books. I remember that me and my mom regularly visit the Recto branch just to buy some of my grade school books. Because school dont sell books, but you can only buy it in a National Bookstore. Just give the number of the book and title, and it will match to the list that they have.

Problem is that when a book is sold out, you have to wait for a week for a new book to arrive.
Btw, that is school text book ha and not the pocket books.

Mr Mike Ramil Bala, Expressions, Store Marketing Officer is proud to share to us that Expressions Stationary store is now 30 years old.

We know that they sound a rival with National Bookstore, but their store is much more different, because they only sell art supplies and stationaries.

Regular items such as pens and art paper are offered in different styles and brand. That's why Expressions are an artist best friend because they cater those special pens for art and drawing.

Mr Robert Alejandro of Papemelroti is known as the tv journalist who drew characters everytime he features a story in Probe TV.  I remember that he always bring a drawing or sketch pad whenever he presents a story or report. And then at the end of the story, he showcases a final sketch or drawing about the topic of the story he featured on TV.

We didn't know at first that he is one of the founders of Papemelroti, we discovered by some of his post online and being one of the guys running INK or Ilustrador ng Kabataan.

Kuya Robert's presentation during the Kapihan sa SM is the most cutest slides ever! He drew those images, and did the animation. It was a very informative presentation and also very entertaining.

We learned about the history of Papemelroti is when Robert and with his siblings decided to run their own stationary store, Then their father who also runs another store, laughed at the name of their Papemelroti store name that based on the siblings name.

But look at that store now!
It grew big and in this Instagram generation...I know for sure, many millennials are staying more in the store.

Papemelroti just recently opened a store here in SM City Dasmarinas.

Mr Jose Marie Chan , Classico Mobilario, Supervisor surprised us very well at the event. At first we thought that the singer Jose Mari Chan is coming! ahhaha kapangalan lang pala.

Classico Mobilario is a furniture store here in SM Dasmarinas. They offer classic and modern style of furniture and fixtures that are perfect for your homes or office.

Check out their contact details on this pic

Whew!!! Kapihan sa SM  at SM City Dasmarinas is a blast!
First I've learned about Cavite history and also the importance of safe guarding the history of our local towns, because we don't know that some part that are important in the history of Cavite might get lost and we need new breed of historians to continue to safe guard it and also museums to preserve it.
