Tribute Event for Francis Magalona (with no permission from Magalona's family)

I felt really bad to found out that some people are making money and using Francis Magalona's name, they should not do that and I know Francis's family will be hurt if they found it out, and then they just did! I just saw that this incident will happen in the near future, but didn't expected that it will happen days after the funeral.

I was offered to do a tribute event weeks ago, but I told the guy that they should ask permission first from the family, and I don't want to get in trouble, because the event idea is good and perfect, and organizing an event is very easy.

Making a tribute event is good, especially if the family will benefit from it. But if people are organizing events and using someone's name is not good.

The family of the deceased has the right to complain and request to cancel the event with the organizers. I just hope that this incident will not happen here in the Philippines. And this post might help the people be aware, especially events organizers that we should not take advantage on someone's death and use the name in making lots of money.

im just sharing this via facebook posts.. thanks MJ

"Let us shame these scammers into giving Francis M's family the respect they deserve as his heirs. They should not be allowed to use his image in any event without permission from the family. This is what Maxene said in her Note. Please spread this around so that it may get to the people in that area so that they do not support this fraud." - GR Rodis (Facebook)

"Although we understand that papa influenced millions of people with his work, we don't approve of these gimmicks that pretend to pay tribute to his legacy when it is OBVIOUS that they are merely using him to make money. FRANCIS M.'S FOUNDATION? There's no such thing! Mama never approved of anything like that! If they were honest and true about paying tribute to papa and wanting to earn money for some foundation, they would have done the appropriate thing and respectfully asked my mom for permission. This is like using my dad as a performer in a concert except they don't pay him for it.

Plus, they're selling shirts just like those from my dad's clothing line.. GAYA GAYA! How do these people sleep at night?! PLEASE RESPECT MY DAD AND LET HIM REST IN PEACE. Nakakabastos kayo!

P.S. If any of you discover more events or merchandise similar to this, please bring it to our attention immediately. THANK YOU."

"This is Pia, the late FrancisM's wife.
My attention was called to this site by my daughters and I am quite disappointed that you are holding an event using his name and persona to make money off without my express permission.

Did you even course this through the Philippine NATIONAL Red Cross? If so, why is their name on your invitation wrong? It just says Philippine Red Cross. It's very haphazard. I am terribly, terribly hurt by this. I hope you could respect me and my dearly beloved's memory by not exploiting his death.

What you are doing goes against the values Francis wrote about in his songs. This is exactly what he spoke of when he wrote those lyrics speaking of graft, corruption and greed.
Do the right thing.
God bless,
Pia Magalona"

Edit 1 : March 17
I just found out that event organizer just deleted Pia's comment about the event, and I'm glad that I copied and posted it here in my blog.

I also posted the screenshot of the event and I RSVP just to monitor its activities.

Edit 2-
at 1:32pm , I received this message "Consortium canceled the event "Three Stars and the Sun... A Tribute to Francis Magalona"." and its finally confirmed that the event is cancelled its post in Facebook, but what assurance we get from it?, they can still post this in Myspace or in Friendster or promote their event offline.

We still don't have assurance that this event is cancelled.
