Korean
food are the new favorite of many people today, after the boom of Italian,
Mediterranean, Indian and Japanese cuisine here in our city, the spicyness,
meaty and veggieness of a Korean food is welcome with open arms, especially if
you are a foodie, you’ll bite and taste it before hugging it. Thanks to Korean
novelas, pogi boy bands and sexy cute girl group performers, the Korean invasion
is finally complete and we have now lots of Korean groceries, school, boarding
house, Kpop, Korean inspired outfit, Kimchis and more kimchis and also the
food!
Last night, I attended a food tasting session for Woo Galbi, since
the restaurant is not yet open, (it will open this April 2013 in Shangri La
Plaza Mall's new wing) the food tasting session and food blogging was held in
Wafu resto in Greenhills. The resto is owned by
Brian
Tiu and Chef Chris Oronce, after the launch of a series of restos, they now
put up another Korean resto that will spice up our foodie life.
For
Korean food, we are very familiar with this kind of set up, lots of side
dish
Here’s
the assistant chef prepares our maki roll with soya paper
The
soya paper is like those sea weed wrapper, but this one tastes a little creamy
I
didn’t expected that they will serve to us half of the food in Woo Galbi’s menu,
I’m ready that night and beside me is my notepad and Olympus E-PL1 camera. Its
hard to take note and get the write spelling of the name of those Korean dishes,
but I stick to its common and English name version.
Foodies
had a great time last night, Instagramming all the food and entice everyone with
the new food concept from Woo Galbi.
I present here the teaser for Woo
Galbi’s offerings, although that they haven’t release yet a price for each, but
consider this as a guide for you til the opening of Woo Galbi restaurant.
Spinach
with miso hollandaise
My not so favorite dish, all pure greeny leaves, the
miso hollandaise added more taste to this Spinach. Its too heavy for my tummy,
but this is perfect for a vegetarian person.
Eel
with cream cheese maki
Crunchy and tasty maki with eel meat, the cream cheese
added more delight and sweet
Spicy
Soft Shell Crab Roll
This is for the next hardcore level of Korean food fan,
a must try and taste good with a dip of sauce
Kimchi
pancake (like an okonomiyaki)
Like an okonomiya or Japanese pancake, the
Koreans have its own version. Looks spicy, but not that too chili. I enjoyed
eating this.
Seafood
pajeon
I forgot to taste this hahhah , but as I said, it tastes like an
okonomiyaki
Beef
taretare (raw ground beef with quail egg yolk)
this is pure raw beef! I’m so
scared to eat this but I was informed that they carefully prepared this while
its frozen and its a part of beef meat that is safe even its raw. I super
enjoyed this, its like for the extreme foodie.
Futo
Maki ( crab meat)
The usual maki with crab meat inside… nothing special, but
its much more bigger
(forgot
the name of this dish)
Seubokkeum
Another favorite, I love this prawn cooked with lots of kimchi and veggies.
It’s a heavy seafood for my tummy, I think I ate 4 pcs. and I call it a
night.
(forgot
the name of this dish)
Kimchi
soup
I love the kimchi soup, almost all Korean resto offers this.
Seafood
soup ( with red snapper fish )
Not chili or spicy, but its tasty because of
the juice from the seafood ingredients.
Haemul
Tang (Spicy beef soup )
The best!! I felt a heavenly ascend after sipping the
chili kimchi soup, and the chomping the grilled beef.
The most tastiest food
infront of me.
Bodae
chigae (Army soup)
They told me that Korean soldiers always eat this during
their training and back in the war times.
Bodae
chigae (Army soup)
It’s a kimchi soup with noodles, sausages, ham and
tofu.
Kalbi
Jim (beef stew)
the ultimate favorite! hahahahah beef stew by Koreans are
the best because of its softness and sweet-salty flavor.
Tofu
soup
Chicken
Kalbi (grilled )
I’m not a fan of wrapping this chicken with a veggie, but
that’s how Koreans eat it.
you
need to use this as a wrapper for your chicken kalbi.
wrap the chicken, dip
it to a sauce and then eat it
Sam
gyup salssam (grilled pork with rice)
Crunchy pork with lots of glory, not
sure if it’s a part of a pork belly, but I love the slice and crunchy features,
I ate this in one shoot to my mouth.
Kal
bibop (grilled beef top on rice)
Ojingo
gui (grilled squid)
Woo
Galbi is not yet open, but I like to give a congrats to Brian and Chris for
bringing another Korean resto for us, thanks also to Myke Soon for organizing
this foodie trip with us food bloggers. (Myke is now working under this new food group )
Watch out for Woo Galbi Korean
restaurant opening this April 2013 in the new wing of Shangri La Plaza
Mall.
