Paskuhan 2009 at Sampaloc, Quezon

A 5 hour travel ride by land and another food tripping event only in our province of Sampaloc, Quezon. As they say the place is the stuff of legend and mystery as the unexplained elements are still present till now, but as the year goes by, the mighty mystery town of Sampaloc, Quezon is changing too. Every year and everytime I visit our province, I can see lots of changes already, the road is getting wider, rough road is now a hard cemented and smooth road, the Madilim road (also known as the ghostly place in the middle of the road mountain) is already gone, but the watery mountain side or mini falls is still there but a little bit abused during the construction, the church changed and the church officials already removed that old wall painting of Jesus and replaced by a crucified wooden statue version (totally sucks, with all bloodied wtf), they installed a gate all over the church blocking the main road going to the patio, installed a bust statue of Enverga infront of the gate of Enverga Academy and many more. the Sucat food trip

We celebrate Christmas with our family, but sometimes we think that we need to celebrate it with our friends and barkada, and this is to organize a general meet up and reunion with our college barkada or tropa, to have a get together food trip in one table and munch some good food while we exchange different stories and updates in our life. I remember me and some of my buddies always organize a get together after the holiday event, a big bottle of Red Horse beer and some pulutan always save the day and go home with lots of laughter and hugs to each other after bringing back those funny old memories back in highschool or college.

And because all of my tropas and new tropas are busy in their family and other activities (toys hahaha), I'm glad that Lace and her DLSU college friends organized a get together few days ago and the host will be their friend Thill who lives in Sucat and their family owns and manage the Trinity Ihaw Ihaw and Food House, which is one of the famous dampa restos in Manila, now have their new branch in SM MOA at the San Miguel Park by the bay. Everyone got excited, me, Lace and the baby ahaah after hearing that they will serve good food for all of us, thanks to Lian for organizing and did a round up of phone calls.  At the night of the dinner party, we are so excited to to eat those food. Thill prepared lots of food. Food in the left, to the right, to the front and they transformed our Sorbeteros cheese flavored ice cream into a wonderful dessert, Lace enjoyed eating the ice cream we bought in 711 nearby and then Thill added some banana with sweet syrups and that malutong na turon skin.

It was night of bringing back college memories, I'm glad that I can relate a little, because I usually get updated or sometimes I'm there during their college days, I even heard that our favorite pasta hang out near DLSU, "House Blend" is already closed, and then there we share our views and some observation of the big change in DLSU, they now are open to all students to wear clothes and they have uplifted the ban of short shorts and skirts. I automatically say wow that DLSU allow now pek pek shorts... wow!

so at the dinner table, we have these yummy food. (read more below)

IBM Reveals Five Innovations that Will Change Cities in the Next Five Years

This is a wow factor for a city to be so high tech, talk about building with AI and using new tech in helping the people in the city to fight contagious diseases and like a panic button to respond a city to a coming crisis.

Quezon City, Philippines - 28 Dec 2009: IBM (NYSE: IBM) recently unveiled a list of innovations that have the potential to change how people live, work and play in cities around the globe over the next five to ten years:

· Cities will have healthier immune systems

· City buildings will sense and respond like living organisms

· Cars and city buses will run on empty

· Smarter systems will quench cities’ thirst for water and save energy

· Cities will respond to a crisis -- even before receiving an emergency phone call

An estimated 60 million people are moving to cities and urban areas each year – more than one million every week. The fourth-annual “IBM Next 5 in 5” focuses on cities because the world is experiencing unprecedented urbanization. Last year, our planet reached an important milestone - for the first time in history, the majority of the world’s population resided in cities.

IBM’s Next 5 in 5 is based on market and societal trends expected to transform cities, as well as emerging technologies from IBM’s labs around the world that have the potential to turn these predictions into reality.

Cities must simultaneously address increasing populations and deteriorating infrastructure. IBM is already working with cities around the world to make them smarter so they can sustain growth. In the next five years, by infusing intelligence into cities, they will change in the following ways: (read more below)

DOT raises concern over Boracay Island West Cove Resort FLAGT

It was an issue months ago and DENR Atienza should look at it first before signing anything. I saw this last November during my trip to Boracay and the resort already destroyed some parts of the rocky mountain and also coral reefs in Boracay, building an island within an island and building an island after an island is not good for the environment. This resort is also known as the Manny Pacquiao resort, but not owned by Pacman. Read the full info below.

Boracay Westcove construction

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has raised concerns over the recently signed Forest Land Use Agreement for Tourism Proposes (FLAGT) between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Boracay Island West Cove Resort in Boracay.

Tourism Secretary Ace Durano said, “The Comprehensive Land Use Plan for Boracay Island, adopted by the Municipal Government, indicates that the island is prone to geologic hazard where any development should be preceded by a thorough geotechnical study of the project site.”

The DENR inked the Forest Land Use Agreement for Tourism Purposes (FLAG-T), granting a 25-year land lease to the Boracay West Cove Resort, which is situated at Sitio Diniwid, Barangay Balabag, Boracay Island. The resort’s land area covers part of no-build zones, as surveyed in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP).  (Read more below)

ALL SYSTEMS GO! Space Shuttle Max at Enchanted Kingdom

The new, improved and the longest rollercoaster ride in the Philippines is back with new upgrades and heard that the rails were added and the coaster is more comfy. The Space Shuttle Max will drive all EK park visitors up to highest adrenaline of their life. I haven't tried this yet and I don't know if I have enough courage to ride it again, but if you already tried the new space shuttle, feel free to share your reviews here.

Enchanted Kingdom (EK), the country’s first and only world-class theme park, continues to thrill Park goers this holiday season with the launch of its newest ride, the Space Shuttle Max.

Over the past 14 years, the Space Shuttle became an icon for Enchanted Kingdom. Countless guests have gone through its spine-tingling loops and jaw-dropping speed as it created unique and memorable experiences for the guests with every cycle. The number of years of operation, however, had taken its toll on the ride and by the end of last summer, the attraction necessitated a major upgrade so that it can be good as new and even better! photo session : opening the Christmas toys

It took me almost a whole day in playing and assembling my toys, the Transformers combiners Bruticus and Superion gave me a hard time in figuring out on how to assemble them and translate that giant manual into words that my hands can understand. I enjoyed playing the Mcdonaldland toys, it is really cute to partner Ronald with this bee mascot. I used my Olympus E520 and a pop up flash filter in taking these photos

going once.. going twice... sold! - day 6 of the 4th Toys and Collectibles Christmas Fair

I'm still high and dry after attending the event yesterday, I went home carrying big boxes of toys hehehe thanks to Mark Cerbo and his awesome bandits of Transformers Philippines for my Christmas goodies every year. I saw the live auction is still active and the items are getting hot, they auctioned off that giant figures of Hellboy, Boba Fett and many others. Small items like the Michael Jordan figure, New Moon figures, Star Wars and that cutesy Penguin Club figures are hot for auction.

Dan of PTK raises the item for the live auction

my haul since day 2.

I just saw that many toy exhibitors are dropping their prices, and that's a good sign, I also spotted a Marvel Icons figure with a good price deal, I prayed to God last night and hope that figure won't be sold out because I will buy it later. It will be the last day today for day 7 and I'm still itching to grab some more (FREE) toys ahhahahah.

adopt a new toy!!! - day 5 of the 4th Toys and Collectibles Christmas Fair

Many are still on a tight budget and saving more money (like me) for Christmas, but I'm glad that we have collectors and stores who are selling pre-owned and loose figures for us, a super cheap loose toys in good condition are one of the best deals here in our event, and I like to thank our exhibitors for providing us an awesome service. This event is really for fans.

Spend sometime with our online and blogger friends at the event, it was a great hang out and also a way to have a get together moments, great to see Reia here in Manila and she's happy to see all her old friends, Now I'm excited to see her performance part for ToyCon 2010 *wink *wink.

It was the busiest day ever, Sunday is indeed crazy, and most crowded day for the event, shoppers, collectors and COSPLAYERS!! roamed the hall like there's no tomorrow. It was fun and I'm  happy to see everyone hanging out in our event, Cosplayers did a whole day reunion and also heard that an online game community did a grand EB in the nearby function hall. The Christmas Cosplay Catwalk show is a success, thanks to our cosplay community for participating in this annual event, and to our friendly group Anime Alliance Philippines for helping us out the whole day for the cosplay. Everyone is happy and enjoyed the event, and as they say.. this is the last fan convention (as always) for 2009. So before the year ends.. let's see each other and wish for more goodies on 2010.

visit us at the event, it will be our last day tomorrow, and you might grab some cool items there, saw a shop dropped off a big box full of GI JOE and Star Wars figs. sold at P100 only.. omg omg.

Avatar in SM Digital Theater with Motion Effect Seat Simulators

OMG! SM Digital Theater launches the Motion Effect Seat Simulators for the Avatar movie.

This is the hard core movie experience, and I haven't experience it yet but I love to try it. I was about to try it with Lace and my sis, but then I decided not to try it because Lace is pregnant and the motion effect simulator is not good for her, so we decided to watch it in a regular cinema, But...but..but.. I want to try this damn motion effect seat simulator and I just don't know how it will work. Will it float or glide when Jake ride with those flying dragon-like creatures or will the seat vibrate during mecha explosions. hmm  This is so hard core, and I'm not sure if they have 3D glasses too.

damn.. must try this

Disney Princesses @ SM Megamall

My knees are shaking when I saw the lovely and pretty Disney Princesses - Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Ohhh man they are so cute! They sang and dance so gracefully, I know they are just some foreigners in costume, but hey!!! they made me think that this is REAL.  oh man.. Disney rocks!!!!
Too bad that the meet and greet is for kids only :(

my favorite of them all is..  Snow White
its their last day today in SM Megamall. but you can watch their show at SM MOA on Dec 25-27

day 4 of the 4th Toys and Collectibles Christmas Fair

Day 4 was the busiest day for the Xmas ToyCon, the venue became crowded near the entrance as it was expected, I positioned myself on the stage platform and rest there for some minutes after searching for my toy of the day, luckily I just spotted again a re-stock of those Daredevil-Kingpin Marvel Minimates. We started the live auction activity at past 2PM and I waited for Cholo to arrived to heat up the event, The live auction went well, but we still have toy left overs til the event closes, I just bid on that SEGA Megadrive TV game, but I didn't know what happened after. Harry Potter items like movie posters and action figures we're the hottest item that day, and auction started from P1 up to hundred pesos. Live auction money will be donated to Bantay Bata 163.

Also we spotted some cosplayers in the venue, they are the apple of the eye of all photographers outside the venue, I just saw them doing some shoots infront of the gate, I took some shots and hope we see them later at the cosplay catwalk show. And then I met Super Inggo mascot hehehee.

I just heard over from Dan of PTK forum that booth exhibitors will still stay til Tuesday and more booths will be added later, means that. more new items and toys for all of us. I know Sunday will be the craziest day for the event hehhehe.  The cosplay will start at around 4PM so be there early at the hall 2, they will do their catwalk in there on stage. I just hope that these cosplayers will be okay for the foot parade, arghhh i just hate foot parade haahah, sumasakit paa ko dun.

ok see you all later and Merry Xmas to all

day 3 of the 4th Toys and Collectibles Christmas Fair
day 3 is a teaser of new stuff for the coming weekend. I just saw new boxes of goodies from exhibitors and all buyers are hanging around and waiting for new items to arrived. I just heard about that Transformers bust statues were sold at a crazy P500 each, then someone bought the entire box! awwww nothing left for us, but they say the shop owner will bring more boxes this weekend. I went there at around 8pm and saw some shoppers roaming around.

Also like to share that our exhibitor Fully Booked just dropped down all their collectibles to 40%, so better visit their giant booth in the middle if you want to grab some collectibles and statues.
happy birthday to our Father of ToyCon - Vic Yap hehhehee

Lolo Dad’s Brasserie introduces exciting menu for the Holiday Season

I'm going to visit this soon at 6750 Makati. If you have try it already, just share your reviews and comments here. I know the venue will be great place for Christmas dinner or hang out.

Vanilla Almond banana split (Large)
End the Lunch Special on a sweet note as Chef Ariel Manuel brings the delectable Banana Split to the table consisting of Vanilla and Almond Selecta Ice cream with Banana bread

Among the strip of Malate’s finest dining choices, it is Lolo Dad’s that gained a reputable image among the authorities of gastronomy. People who frequent the vicinity can testify what that image means, claiming that this café is truly worth experiencing. True enough, those who have dined there have become living testaments to Lolo Dad’s hard-earned glory. That same spark and good taste that ignited the Cafe’s success can now be experienced in Makati, bringing the Lolo Dad experience closer to busy metropolitans. But this time, it comes in the form of a brasserie.

A brasserie in Makati
Except for the price range, Lolo Dad’s Brasserie is nothing short of the Café in Malate. The same trademark quality of food and service fills the simple and minimalist structure of the 6750 venue, easily complementing the grand dining experience. People who frequent the place have become accustomed to the Brasserie’s unique way of tickling the palate, making no excuses or reasons to justify why dining there is a must. “We created a Brasserie in order to give a more affordable Lolo Dad’s dining experience to the people,” said Ding Ayuyao, general manager of the Brasserie.
