Bangketa Pares

IMG_2476

IMG_2475

I don't know why food in the sidewalk tastes so good, these food sold on streets are a part of my life and I really enjoyed eating them, I know the hazard of eating street food and I always make sure that they are clean and safe to eat. Street food sold back in the 80's and 90's are safe, unlike today, the preparation of food up to how the food is cook are having a shortcut, but I trust some local street vendors who are still in the process of making sure the food they are serving are clean and using almost good quality ingredients.

The Pares with rice, its like a beef with saucey beef broth are a popular street food. I usually eat this during the rainy season because the beef and its hot sauce keeps my body warm. Pares are usually sold in a Gotohan or Pareshan, but now they are sold on the street and much more better to sell than porridge, lugaw or goto. For a price of Php 35, you can already have a beef pares meal with fried rice. You can add more fried garlic to your rice and green leafy onion leaves to your beef pares. There's also an option if you want to add noodles to your beef pares, for an additional P5 or P10 pesos, your beef pares will be converted into a beef pares mami.

Bangketa Beef Pares and Mami are sold in a push cart, customizably by local street vendors, here in Bacoor, Cavite, I trust the vendor as they sell this everyday infront of the village where I live in. They are the best but only serve with less meat, but lots of beef sauce.

Whenever I ate street food, I always sign a waiver with dangerous bacteria and also pray to God that I will not get sick after a few days, so far, after eating the pares so many times, I can say that it is safe to eat it. I just hope that the beef they are serving are not from double dead cows.

Hang over from the Enchanted Halloween party

It's a tiring day for me after attending the kids Halloween party at Edsa Shangri La Hotel. Its our 1st time to attend a party as a family. 1st time for our 2 year old Ash to party the whole day and do trick or treating,  we chose to party in a hotel because there are lots of goodies and freebies for all attendees,  I lined up always in that Orbitz and snow ball drinks, Ash got lots of candies and chocolates from booths and establishment inside the hotel. Wife also in her nutcracker outfit and me as the minion from Despicable me movie, I decided to be a cartoon character and not be the barbarian.

Here's our trick or treat line going to the bakeshop of the hotel

Attending the Enchanted Halloween today

source
We're going to attend the Enchanted Halloween event for kids today in Edsa Shangri-La Hotel Manila. I'm glad that I went to the hotel yesterday to buy the tickets, the reservation we placed via phone is not really honored, but its so weird that they accepted our reservation few days ago when my wife called them. I told her not to inquire in Facebook, because the holder of the page is not helpful for our reservation, but then when I went to the events desk yesterday, our reservation didn't make it to the list..or there's really no reservation. We learned this trick from last year, book early, or buy your tickets early or book in advance just to avoid hassle. There are lots of "takaw tingin" people in Facebook, they will ask for reservation but they will not pay for it or will not be present on the day it self.  The hotel is strict and I know his kind of procedure, hehehehe.. good luck to some people later, I know it will be a riot, just like the New Year booking and buffet reservation every December 31.

Ash will be a little king, my wife will be a nutcracker princess and me will go out as a TROLL hahahahaha

The blogging have to wait

It’s a busy week for me today and the the last leg of October 2012 already pinning me down. But that’s okay, few days ago I was in Baguio and there I experienced for the first time in participating in a pine tree planting project with SM Prime. It’s a tiring adventure but the experience and learning about whats the hulabaloo about pine trees and SM Baguio.

Here’s a photo from Last Tuesday. Enzo blogged this at http://www.thejuantraveler.blogspot.com/2012/10/october-road-trip-to-baguio.html

I’m off now to my next destination and I’m going now to Limbo Halloween party. I’ll be one of the judges for the costume contest, I know it will be difficult to judge a winning spooky costume, but whoever got a nice costume and it spooked me, I’ll give them a 10 score!

Project Astrotrain production note 2

The big day is here! The event we’re working on will be tomorrow, above is the poster design created by Myke Soon, and then below the rough sketch is our design peg for the poster. I drew it in Starbucks Coffee SM Arena before we watch the Wilson Philips concert.

Oh di ba? the final poster is so cute! thanks to Myke Soon for the final drawing and coloring it. We started inviting bloggers few days ago and I’m glad that the numbers are okay, we’re not comfortable yet, because we’re going to wait if all of them will attend. As of now we have 34 bloggers for the Movies and Music Block and then we have a total of 15 bloggers for the Gadgets Block.

I’ll be in Podium tomorrow starting 10am,I’ll help around in the pre production and also welcoming our bloggers. This event is the 2nd year of Astroplus’ bloggers event, and it’s a partnership event with me for Azrael’s Merryland Blog and Myke Soon’s Mixofeverything Blog.

Okay..cross fingers and hope there will be no rain and floodings.

Grave gold thieves destroyed my grandparent's tomb in Tayabas, Quezon

grave thieves in the Philippines
photo via Chuchieshideaway

Photo above is a visual sample on what happened to my grand father's tomb.

My morning is in its badtrip mode when I read a late txt message from my old phone. Its our grandparent’s tomb care taker in Tayabas, Quezon province. He informed me that our Grand father’s grave was destroyed yesterday and the culprit behind it are the grave thieves who hunt for gold, silver, bronze, metal and jewelries inside the closed final resting place of our dead love ones. It’s a big shocker for me that we are victimized by these professional grave thieves and I’m not sure how they discovered that my grand father is wearing a false teeth with 2 gold teeth, and even us didn’t know that there’s gold in his false teeth. Our tomb caretaker told me that two teeth were missing..OMFG!

Our tomb care taker, Mang Kaldo, texted me and I’m very thankful that he reported it to us what happened. I called them on the phone and the one who spoke to me is his wife. Then I reported it to my family about what happened and we need to repair it right away because the tomb and the remains of my Lolo Panyo will be ruined by the rain. Mang Kaldo told me that the resident sepulturero who manages the whole Tayabas, Quezon cemetery are the one authorized to clean up and repair the mess. The damage for our wallets is a Php 2,500 for a repair, they will cover the hole with metal and then cement it back again. I’m not sure why the need to use metal.

I’m not sure what will be the procedure and I want to check it out myself, but its too far away and we need to cover the hole before more rain can flood the casket and maybe stray animals like dogs, steal the bones of my grand father.

I’m not sure if the barangay and the police are aware of the incident, but we will visit the police and barangay station for personal report and complain when we visit their graves this November 1. Mang Kaldo will supervise the repair of the tomb and he told me that many tombs were victimized yesterday and its look like a group of gold diggers and grave hunter and thieves who attacked an old cemetery in one night. I’m sure they are equipped with high tech metal detectors and they are well organized criminals.

I hope the local government should do something and it’s not right to steal and destroy tombs of the dead who are resting already for years. And this show how corrupt and poor our country, having lots of criminals around…and sick people who terrorize the living and even the dead.

To my Lolo Panyo, don't worry, those thieves will get their own karma.

For those who don’t want to experience this incident.
here are some tips.

1. It will be better that you remove the false teeth made up of silver, gold or bronze
2. Don’t place jewelries or coins along with the dead person inside the casket
3. Buy wooden casket with less metal but made of aluminum
4. Don’t use Bronze or metallic tombstones
5. Get a secured and private cemetery
6. Visit the tomb every year or visit it regularly
7. Get a tomb care taker to look out and clean the tomb for you when you are away
8. If you have placed some jewelry upon last request of the dead person, don’t mention that you inserted it there
9. Don’t mention that your dead relative have gold or silver plated false teeth
10. Be quiet and never mention all details to the sepulturero or tomb care taker on what’s inside the casket.
11. Much better if you cremate your relative and keep the ashes in a secured cemetery. (don’t use metallic urns)

Using metals around the tomb is a thief magnet, remember that scavenge metal materials can be exchange for money in a nearby junkshop.

If ever I die, I want my body be cremated and let it stay in a casket. I will place a fake skeleton inside and a tiny bits of hard metal inside. I will also place a picture of my middle finger, a troll face and a note saying “ Gotcha! mother fuckers! there’s no gold in here..wahhahahaha….you will die alone soon!”

I hope that message will reach it to the grave thieves.

Rock rockan na sa Tanduay Rhum Rockfest 2012

Suddenly...I forgot that I haven't attended this only rock event we have in the Philippines and I'm missing a lot of rock music in my life. The Tanduay Rhum Rockfest this Oct 26 in SM MOA concert grounds will bring again our awesome 30 pinoy rock bands!! Check the details below on how you can score tickets.

- I'll just copy paste the full details -

TANDUAY RHUM ROCK FEST YEAR 6
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

One Nation. One Music. One Rhum.

What we have here is a dire situation.

With the digital age upon us, convergence of information, technology and entertainment impact on how we consume media, more so with music. Easier access to music is a reality; in our phones, our players, our tablets, and our internet browsers. In order to stay alive, our local music industry must step up with the times.

Often now, we see giant recording label conglomerates shutting their offices, radio stations closing shop or changing formats, legendary bands calling it quits, and seminal performers leaving the land because they have run out of opportunities in their hometown. Meanwhile, foreign acts of all genres continue to dominate and invade the airwaves and the event scene. Local music is running out of venues – and reasons – to keep playing. If this keeps us, OPM will die.

Tanduay, The Number One Filipino Rhum, will not let this happen. Not without a fight.

Tanduay has always been a constant advocate of Filipino music. For almost 6 years now, Tanduay has owned the Filipino rock genre. Since 2006, Tanduay has front lined its liquor brands by incorporating Music Marketing into its campaigns. It has created strong connections between young avid music listeners and their favorite rhum.

Tanduay continues to produce the biggest and loudest nationwide tour; the Tanduay First Five. Performing in 22 cities across the country, in far most provinces, only Tanduay continues to bring local rock music closer to the people. The country’s reigning rock royalty; Urbandub, Kamikazee, Parokya ni Edgar, Rico Blanco and Wolfgang, all go onstage to show that Filipino Rock music is not dead – with attendance of over 30,000 people per event, the Tanduay First Five proves that our people are still hungry for Pinoy Rock music.

As Parokya ni Edgar Frontman, Chito Miranda, would say, “It brings the bands closer to the fans. It gives us the chance to play Pinoy music all over the country. Bands like us live for live gigs and there is no better way to promote pinoy music. Watching or hearing someone singing on TV or on the radio is nothing compared to actually seeing the artists perform their original songs live. Tanduay does that for us, for the fans, and for the local music scene.”

Ikaw, Ako At Ang Musika
This year’s TanduayRhumRockfest is set to be the most ambitious project ever produced by Tanduay.

For 2012, the annual music event will be bigger and louder. Tanduay will rock not just Metro Manila, but Cebu and Davao as well, expecting around 80,000 audience in Manila, and an estimate of 50,000 per venue in Cebu and Davao– destined to be the biggest events ever produced.

Tanduay believes in the power of the people – and in our great local music. Thus, Tanduay is raising a call to arms – to keep OPM alive and rockin’. Tanduay aims to unite Filipinos, artists and music lovers alike, in one movement.

“When Tanduay speaks, the whole nation listens. It is important to the bands that they see their years of hard work acknowledged with that kind of recognition. As artists, it is also important for them to be able to interact with other great musicians and to build relationships on and off stage, something which no other tour can provide,” says Wolfgang band manager, Lizza Nakpil.

Given that the brand’s target market is very much into music and patronizes Filipino-made products, Tanduay aims to instill consciousness in today’s generation by advocating OPM.  The campaign aims to infuse in the hearts and minds of today’s generation the will to keep supporting OPM.

This year’s RhumRockfest will immortalize support to OPM by creating a movement. We can all take part in this movement, musicians and non-musicians alike, to start listening to more local music and supporting our very own brands. It is time to bring the days of Pinoy Rock music back to its former glory.

Tanduay, makers of world class quality Filipino Products has been long loved by the Filipinos over 158 years. It has already claimed the label of most trusted Filipino-made Rhum in the Philippines. With its strong association with Filipino Rock Music and with Tanduay being a true Filipino brand, we believe that this year’s advocacy is aligned with the brand’s mantra.

The TanduayRhumRockfest TVC
This year’s TVC campaign for TanduayRhumRockfest is the brand’s most moving and ambitious one to date. The Tanduay First Five bands continue to lead the movement, marching towards one goal - supporting OPM through TanduayRhumRockfest.

The message of OPM will be amplified via mainstream media. Partnering with ABS-CBN, Tanduay launched the “OPM I-play mo” campaign. It is a news-led campaign, enticing people to listen to OPM. It is a simple, actionable campaign – a call to action for people to play OPM on the airwaves, or in their own playlist. In their own little way, they will be able to glorify original Filipino Music.

The Anthem
This year’s mantra culminates with an anthem, inviting people to be one in voice. It is Tanduay’s long-standing belief, finally manifested in words and music.

Ikaw, ako, at ang musika.Tanduay has created an anthem in the native tongue, with lines that resonate a pledge to support OPM. The place is here, and the time is now – Itaas ang lakas ang bandila ng musikang Pilipino.

The Line-up
On its 6th run, this year’s line-up of RRF includes a roster of Filipino rock icons dedicated to promoting Filipino local music. It is the most powerful line up ever, putting the artists in their rightful spotlight. This will prove that Filipino rock is still as its peak. The legends will perform with up-and-coming artists on the same stage. It is a celebration of legacy and promise, all in one night.

30 Rock icons will be playing in Manila on October 26, 15 in Cebu on October 12 and 15 in Davao October 19.

Promo Mechanics
Tanduay will provide easy steps for everyone to enjoy TanduayRhum Rock Fest Year 6.

Just buy 2 bottles of Tanduay Rhum 5 Years 750 ml and 1 bottle of Tanduay Light 750 ml to get your VIP ticket. Buying 1 bottle of either Tanduay Rhum 5 Years 750 ml or Tanduay Light 750 ml gets you a General Admission Pass.

Tanduay – More Up Ahead
Tanduay is moving forward not just with its advocacy, but with its brand line-up as well. This year, Tanduay earned its 160th medal, with the addition of 4 more golds from the prestigious Monde Selection.

The brand wants Filipinos to keep enjoying great music with great drinks. Tanduay released a lot of new products this year. One is Tanduay Light, a new version of our favorite rhum that promises great taste in a lighter mix. Another product is Mardi Gras vodka schnapps which comes in two flavors – Choco mint and Mango Orange. In addition, your favorite mixed drinks are now available in the market. The Tanduay cocktails was also released in Mojito, Margarita, Blue Mai Tai, and Strawberry Daiquri.

Long Live Pinoy Rock!
As long as companies like Tanduay continue to support the OPM advocacy, there will always be hope for the music scene. Tanduay First Five tours and TanduayRhumRockfest events will continue to inspire rising musicians to hone their craft. Tanduay will carry on in mounting a platform where citizens can support and show their love for local music. Tanduay aims to inspire and motivate Filipinos to truly love their own – local products, local music.

As Tanduay Rock Royalty Rico Blanco would testify,“With its Tanduay Rhum Rockfest events, Tanduay First Five tour and sponsorship of similar huge music events in the past half decade, Tanduay has taken local music to heights it well deserves but has NEVER experienced before. I don’t think local music has ever been given a stage with the best production values, regularity and consistency – year round for half a decade now, breadth – nationwide, and always in front of mammoth crowds of at least 30,000 to 60,000 people each time, sometimes even more. Tanduay has been leading the way, walking the walk, in terms of supporting local music. That is just plain fact.” Tanduay indeed proves that OPM is not dead.

While what we have here is a dire situation, we can all do something to change it.

Be part of the movement and show your love for Pinoy Rock. Raise your arms, stomp your feet, and join the nation in declaring our pledge to keep the music alive.

Hunting season for me in SM Cyberzone

The only store and shop that I usually visit is the SM Cyberzone in any SM Supermalls branches, its like a paradise for gadgets shopping for me and if girls love to stay and shop inside a bag or shoe store, for guys who are techno freaks like me usually stay and hunt for the best gadgets in town and SM Cyberzone is here to house every electronic and techy for us. Yesterday, I went to SM Cyberzone in SM Bacoor to hunt for a gear that I can use with my iPhone4s, I'm using my iPhone4s in taking photos and videos and I searched online that there are lots of add on gadgets that I can install in an Iphone 4s.

For example, there's an external microphone, lights, tripod, glider cam and many other. The add ons are expensive, but there are tips online on what items that you can buy that are more affordable, others are DIY project, so I'll just grab those ideas and try if it will work.

IMG_3932
Here's the mini microphone that I saw in Octagon store, priced at P250. I can attach this to my iPhone4s' earphone and mic slot, so that it can record clear audio whenever I do a self portrait video blog. The front mic has low coverage whenever I use the front camera in taking videos. There are lots of version, but I like this one and it has a 56+ DB

IMG_3933
Here's another version of microphone that I can use for video interview, I'll buy this next time and I saw this too in Octagon. priced at P200 only.

IMG_3931
We forgot to own this and keep it inside the car, the USB power adapter is useful for charging smartphones and also mini gadgets. P395 only at Octagon.

IMG_3934
Power battery for ride on toys are also available, I forgot the name of this store but I know they have lots of branches in any SM Cyberzone branch. I'm on a hunt for these kind of batteries that can power up ride on toy cars. Most expensive is around P1,500.

IMG_3936
My hunt for that day is to buy a n iPhone casing with a tripod mount under it. Power Mac center sell those casing and I saw that 2 months ago, but I found out that they no longer have stocks, so I went to a nearby store and saw this icamera iPhone4s case, it looks like a camera, so cute and comes in different colors. The sad part is that there's no tripod mount set up under the casing.

That's our hunting season in SM Cyberzone, watch out for my updates soon!

oh, I'll check out SM Cyberzone-SM Baguio later, let's see on what kind of gadgets we can grab there later.

PRESS RELEASE

F1 Hotel Celebrates Halloween with a Healthy Beat!

This October 27, 2012, F1 Hotel Best Western Premier gives a different Halloween experience to kids as it celebrates the trick or treat event with a touch of Zumba.

Entitled “Zumba & Zombie Halloween”, kids will get a chance to engage themselves with today’s trending dance for the young ones, the Zumbatomic. It is a dance specially designed for children (ages 4 – 12) to encourage kids to develop a healthy lifestyle and to incorporate fitness as a natural part of their lives through dance, music and exercise.

“The integration of Zumba in Halloween is something unique. The reason why we decided to push through with this is because we want to introduce the younger generation a healthy way to celebrate which at the same time not boring at all. It is simply like indulging to all those sweets and burning some of those calories afterwards. “says Mr. Raffy Chico, F1 Hotel’s Corporate General Manager.
