LEGO WeDo 2.0 robotics starter kit for elementary kids #CES2016

My 5 year old son, Ashton, just got an interest in building a LEGO structure and adding it with some electronics, his interest began late last year when was influenced by these Youtube videos of DIY LEGO stuff and then at home, I noticed that he changes his LEGO builds into some transforming and converting structure, from that style, I noticed too that he added some LED lights. Then he asked for a LEGO Mindstrom for Christmas, and I told him that its too complicated to build a LEGO Robotics and it requires hours of education and lectures from LEGO Mindstorm professional builders.
I know that Hobbes and Landes is offering this course every year and I just saw an ad in their Instagram that they are now accepting students for a LEGO Mindstorm robotics class and they require 7 years old and above only as qualified students.
For my son Ashton, he have to wait for another year in order to enter a LEGO Mindstorm robotic class.
But that kind of LEGO is much advance, Im glad that LEGO introduces their new version of LEGO WeDO 2.0, it’s a robotic starter kit for elementary kids.
Im not sure if this will be available soon in the Philippines, but Im so interested to acquire one.
But having a LEGO robotic kit still requires some basic education.
Im sure Hobbes and Landes will add a class in the future.
So what does it do?
- LEGO bricks to build figures and things
- There's an app that acts as guide or manual in building robots
- a manual that is easy to be understand by kids (just a drag and drop feature)
- includes a low energy Bluetooth motor
- with USB connection
- The educational course can teach kids about science, math, technology, engineering, literacy and about eco environment
Here are some screen grabs of LEGO WeDO 2.0
Kids can follow the instruction via the WeDo 2.0 app
Its juts a drag and drop feature to let kids understand robotics
From the video, we can see that building a LEGO robot requires adult supervision and also building it as a team.
The course can introduce kids more into science and also increase more their interest to build more with their imagination.
