Few weeks ago, Globe announced that they will launch the 5G home broadband at the 2nd quarter of 2019. We also learned that during its announcement event in BGC, we learned that 5G wireless tech connectivity is already present, they showed it us by showing an internet speed meter and the speed reached up to 2.87gbps.
Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu was on stage and he introduced to us the benefit of having a 5G connection. Internet at home will be much faster, video streaming will let you get 4K video resolution and it requires you 25mbps for Netflix and Youtube, Hospitals can easily pull out data of their patient whenever they need it, VR will soon be the next stage for entertainment for live events and also gaming, watching the NBA via AR will soon be experienced, the blind can also use a head gear tech that helps them navigate the road and street safely, drone delivery might soon be a normal service because it uses a much more faster and stronger 5G connection.
There are lot more possibilities that you can expect if ever 5G is the normal speed for our internet here in the Philippines, but my only concern is that, the consumption of data or information will be much more heavy or have more demand, because of the super fast internet connect. Internet users will demand more content.
Local content producers, the media, bloggers, vloggers and content writers can deliver more content to everyone, but if we have 5G present, expect that everyone will be a content creator and the flow of data and info will be much bigger compare to previous years.
Are we ready for 5G??
if yes, then here are some info that we learned from the big announcement of GLOBE
- 5G will be using Air Fiber internet, it uses location wireless radios and instead of fiber. It will not require them to install those long fiber lines to our homes, and they will no longer have to deal with a local government office for permits, the culprit that slows down their installation because of "red tape", they will just install some technology that can deliver the 5G signal around the town, the speeds expected are ranging from 50mbps to 100mbps
- 5G services by Globe will be available commercially in the Philippines in mid of 2019
- Globe extended the partnership with Huawei for the involvement of their planning and design of a wireless broadband network and creation of a wireless innovation center.
Now the countdown just started and we have to wait for one year in order to reach the 2nd quarter of 2019. We are excited for this and Im sure you are excited too.
Content creation from our side will be much more faster and smoother, the delivery of content will be more in high quality and we are sure that in every household will transform one person a content creator.
Imagine a lot of possibilities in the future.
Love it or hate it, whether you like it or not, 5G is coming and Globe just showed to us that 5G is really present in BGC and this showcase event is much more bigger than an email press release as they say it hahaha.
The next question is--- we hope that the price is affordable and everyone can afford it for prepaid or postpaid plan
