I just learned about the incoming Super Typhoon when I watched an international news reporting about the super typhoon that will first hit Guam, and then we got at least a week notice that the super typhoon will reach the Philippines after a few days.
At first I thought that the Super Typhoon Mankhut (international name) will weaken after it passed through Guam, but it still main strength and its getting more stronger.
Local news began airing the forecast and the possible devastation of the incoming Super Typhoon Ompong (PH name). We got time to prepare for this and we dont want bad things happen again like in Typhoon Ondoy and Super Typhoon Yolanda. It will be the 2nd time in history that a Super Typhoon will test us again, we waited and we are so ready for the 2nd time.
Here’s my photo story of how we prepared before Super Typhoon Ompong make landfall in our country and also the aftermath. Life continues as they say, but for me, I stayed home with my family and we prepared more because according to the weather forecast, they aren’t sure if the typhoon will shift downward to Luzon or go upward to the sea area of Luzon.
September 11 - me and the wife scheduled a grocery session and we bought lots of supplies that are good for two weeks. So here’s our haul - lots of meat, veggies, canned goods, instant noodles, bread, crackers and some items for personal use.
It was a tiring grocery session, something went wrong in one of the cashier counter, so we went left the grocery items and let them fix it first. But while we wait for the check out, we went to Dakasi for our milk tea moment.
At home we got some updates about Ompong and we learned that it will make landfall on Friday night. We got scared when we saw the images that the super typhoon is bigger than the land of North Luzon.
September 12 - I think it was the last sunshine of the week. I took a pic of this as soon as I woke up.
And here’s the last view of the sunset that week. It was beautiful.. Purplish blue color in the clouds during the sun setting.
Kids are outside playing and weather is fine
September 13 - The weather forecast reveals that they are not sure if the super typhoon will go downward or upward, the only way they can figure it out when it reaches land fall.
We got one more day to prepare for the coming of the super typhoon
I went to our backyard farm to check out the animals. Here’s I saw the flower blooming Caimito tree. Few days ago I was complaining of a foul smell at night, then someone told us that it was the Caimito tree blooming its flowers.
Everynight I start to appreciate that scent of this weird flower hahaha.
Spotted on top of the roof of our bamboo house, a street cat is living and its the culprit who start to poop inside the bamboo tree.
I named him Jograd, because this cat roams around the house and sometimes sleeps here inside the bamboo house and sometimes on top of a car inside our garage.
Crap… I think the termites are preparing too for the super typhoon. I spotted a dirt trail on the bamboo post of the house. We’re not preparing to spray them with anti-termite chemicals.
Pet rabbits at the farm seems okay and fine. This will be their 2nd Super Typhoon. As for our chickens...they are also fine and I made sure that the chicken house are well secured.
Hmmm mushrooms on a trunk of a tree. I wonder if these are edible.
Im surprised that our two Atis tree is now bearing lots of fruit. Harvest time next week after the super typhoon.
I was searching for these caterpillars since last week, Because I spotted their poops anywhere in our plant box and some of the leaves of a flower plant are eaten by these caterpillars.
I spotted three of them trying to finish the leaves of the flower plant near our gate. After the typhoon, the two caterpillars are gone, but I spotted one at the other side of the plantbox and then I spotted 1 small ones.
This kind of caterpillar metamorphosis into a big moth….and not a butterfly.
We’re now charging all our powerbank and gadgets. I assigned one location for our charging station.
I also prepared these USB powered lights and also my camera’s LED light.
More lights…..and also USB powered fans, we will use this just incase the power is out.
September 13 evening, we are feeling some strong winds in our area here in Cavite. Then I learned that our friends are in Claveria, Cagayan for a get together, they also preapared for the super typhoon. I chat at them while watching their FB live
They stayed indoors and will evacuate if ever the sea water starts to invade the land. Their area is storm surge prone, but they already got in contact with the local authorities and they will also help around if needed.
Super Typhoon Ompong is makes landfall…. Grabe!
The wind outside the house is so crazy.. I woke up at around 3AM when a large thump was heard above our roof and then the wind goes crazy, whirling around like a tornado. Then I spotted that our large TV antenna fell and was hanging infront of our window at the 2nd floor. I was scared when the wind whirls around and its was the weirdest wind behavior ever…
I woke up my wife and then informed our neighbors about the hanging antenna, and told them to be careful in going out, we will remove this when the typhoon is over.
The next morning…. Weather looks ok, but here’s the devastation and aftermath of Super Typhoon Ompong in our area.
That’s the tv antenna. I think our roof got damaged.
Leaves and branches of trees are scattered in the road. This is the scene every after the typhoon.
When the weather is fine throughout the day, me and my family went to the mall to eat our lunch. Also we need to buy some stuff at the grocery too.
Lunching at KFC….
Playtime with Ash at the arcade station.
Starbucksing… haha
Our neighbor, Ate Baby, sent some Biko rice cake at home. Wow Sarap!! We ate this for our merienda.
Wife is instagramming.. Hahahah.
Life is back to normal… our pet cat Jackson is spotted at his rest area
September 16 -- we’re back at work..but then my laptop is acting up..
Im glad that the HD is repaired automatically...whew! Time to back up some files.
I went back to the termites’ lair and they repaired the dirt trail that I removed from few days ago...wow! This are real architects! Ahhaah. But then I destroyed it again...Let’s see if they can repair it again.
I used my Ryze Tello drone to inspect the damage of the super typhoon, here I spotted that there’s a big hole from where the tv antenna is standing. Carpenters will soon fix this. I just hope for no rain in the next coming days.
September 15 --- really??? NDRMC sent a sms blast so late!!!! I think mobile network signal from Sept 13-14 is wonky.
Its sad that the Super Typhoon Ompong destroyed lots of properties, natural formations of land and mountain and also it took lives of some people. Let's pray for the soul of the typhoon victims and let's pray for the fast recovery of the affected areas here in Northern Luzon.
