Non-stop bayanihan after Typhoon Ondoy

Kapamilya Zanjoe Marudo and Shaina Magdayao, originally uploaded by LopezLink

Typhoon Ondoy hit the Philippines 2 weeks ago and many are affected by the flood that left many pinoys homeless and made life more uneasy to recover. Its big effect is like we’re having our own recession here, but I’m glad that there are some association, companies and large groups who were there to help us and manage to contribute great effort to build lives again to all flood victims. During the flash flood event, I am very helpless here at home and become so stressed out in hearing news and updates about the typhoon and the flash flood. All roads and highways are blocked off due to heavy traffic and the flood. I didn’t expected that our home in Santolan, Pasig will be affected by the flood, I just heard the news from my sister who is trying to reach me via a phone, and I was sleeping that time and trying to recover from a big stress, then received a txt message from my cousin and told me to contact her via our land line, there I discovered that the flood invaded the house already and in knee deep water. I can’t do anything but give advice to my sister and prepare ourselves if ever the flood becomes waist deep. I just prayed that the water will subside and never go higher. But I’m stuck here in Cavite and completely unstable to help, even if I can travel to Pasig I will have to cross bravely a chest deep water going there. All I did is pray and hope everything is okay.

my 3rd year at the Philippine Blog Awards

The 3rd Philippine Blog Awards 2009 will be tomorrow night at PETA theater, everyone in the blogging community is now preparing for the big night and almost everyone are discussing on what clothes they are going to wear.

March 2007 - coverage album here
My 1st attendance was at the 1st Philippine Blog Awards 2007, and it was a great experience to be there as one of the bloggers choice award finalist, the event was held in RCBC theater and everyone wears formal attire, I feel like that I'm in an Oscar awards, the stage projected a giant video wall covering the wall of the event. I also met and saw super star bloggers at the event, it was a total wow for me, and that experience at a blog awards is really a treasure.

September 2008 - coverage album here
2nd Philippine Blog Awards 2008 is also fun, it was the first time the awards event became live on the internet, I provided them my free service in video live streaming the event using 2 cameras. Its my first awards night event to be covered by a live video streaming,  I feel like i'm a one man army studio streaming everything live and even behind the scenes. Two cameras worked well, one is a Sony video cam for zooming in features on the stage and an elevated Creative Webcam that sits on top of us over 10 feet, it was a good view having a semi-birds eye view of the awards night. It was great event and also didn't expected some heated discussion happening already in the chatroom of the live streaming.

and now my attendance will be tomorrow, I'm excited because even that I am not nominated or a finalist or a live video streamer, I will attempt now covering the event using my Olympus E520, will start something new or maybe capture those great moments of everyone inside the PETA Theater. Congrats and more power to all people behind the Philippine Blog Awards, the voting session for some finalist will be closed today, so better visit their website and vote for your favorite blog at the Readers choice category.

If you want to attend the event, all you need to do is visit the Registration page for a seat reservation.
Dress code is come as you go, oh boy.. right now I'm still thinking of what I'll wear. hahahahah.
ok ok ok ..im excited, if you will attend, bring a camera!!!! lets have a fun event coverage and experience for our blogs.

I like to congratulate in advance Ms. Lace Llanora of styleandrelax.net for making it for the finals for the Fashion Blog Category, and our mighty team up in doing podcast - the Pinoy Pop Cast Podcast is also a finalist under podcast category. Congrats, good luck and more power to all finalist. Win or Lose., I know this event will be awesome and unforgettable.

If you are living outside Manila and can't attend the event, visit the event site for a dose of live video streaming hosted by Flippish.com

There's also a sched of Visayas chapter of the blog awards on October 18, and then in Mindanao on October 24.

Hip & wholesome: Jollibee’s flash dance mob inspires teens

Picture6
JUST DANCE: Teens were able to display the true meaning of cool, as well as their dance moves, during Jollibee’s recent flash dance mob
.

Nowadays more and more Filipino youth prescribe to a new brand of “cool” – one that is synonymous with wholesome and responsible behavior. The real Pinoy teen knows better to channel their energy and enthusiasm to fun and positive activities. And recently, hundreds of teenagers were able to do just that — as well as display their impeccable dancing skills—during Jollibee’s explosive dance flash mob which was held at SM Mall of Asia’s The Atrium.

Having wholesome fun
Most teens understand that coolness is closely linked with having fun. And today’s teenagers prefer to preoccupy themselves with more productive pursuits. For the hundreds who took part in Jollibee’s flash mob, this means following their ultimate passion: dance.

Filipino teachers, with their undaunted commitment to giving children hope through good education, are recognized as the unsung heroes of this country. They devote long hours, sweat and tears to their students in order to help them gain a better and brighter future.

In recognition of our teachers’ important role and in appreciation of their tireless efforts, Jollibee is once again offering its Teachers’ Treats promo just in time for Teachers’ month. The promo - which will run from October 5-9, 2009 in all Jollibee stores nationwide - will give educators all over the country exclusive discounts on their favorite Langhap-Sarap treats.

“The country’s best teachers dedicate a lot of their spare time to empowering Filipino children through education,” shares Arline B. Adeva, PR manager of Jollibee. “It’s a commitment that can go unheralded and unrewarded, which the teachers’ really don’t mind. Every little way we can say ‘thank you’ to them means a lot to them and this is just one way we can warm their hearts in the same way and make them feel special.”

There are four Teachers’ Treats to choose from. For only P49, teachers can enjoy any of the following combinations: Jollibee Spaghetti and regular Coke; regular Yum, Vanilla Cone Twirl and regular Coke; and Yum with Cheese plus regular Coke. The promo also offers one-piece Chickenjoy with rice plus regular Coke for only P69.

Blackout drama

Some areas of Pasig, Rizal, Antipolo, QC and San Juan just experienced a massive city blackout and it results again a major panic to the people who live in those cities. I was in Megamall this evening and experienced the blackout at nearly 9pm. Everyone in the mall in a state of panic while others ran outside the stores and look for the way out. Its impossible to roam around the mall, because there is no emergency light and its hard to see you way out, glad that security guards have their flash lights and then I remembered that I brought this mag light pen with me. After a few minutes the back up generator of the mall powered up the lights and everyone in Megamall went out safety.

I listened in a my Philips Go Gear's fm radio channel and got hooked to Rock Ed radio. It was funny that the people in the dj booth is so clueless on what's going on, I'm glad that everyone got the time to update them via phone calls and sms messages. A guy called on the phone and told them that the Taytay electric substation is in fire. So sad that the announcer didn't believe it yet because there is no confirmation. I was laughing at myself and I wondered that I should txt them that they should listen to AM radio news to confirm it if they want to do public service. It was helpful for me to listen to them all the way from megamall to cavite, but it was a fun ride going back home listening to everyone who are clueless on whats happening... hmm hey! including me ahaahahah.

and oh..the photo above is from the movie 500 days of Summer, which I think will be showing here in the Philippines this October 21?? or 28 ??   guy will be lucky if he got trapped in an elevator with Zooey Deschanel.

how bout you?? who do you want to be with inside the elevator when a black out occurs?

5th Philippine Bird Festival-Balanga

5th Philippine Bird Festival-Balanga
October 9-10, 2009
People’s Center, Capitol grounds
Balanga City, Bataan

The 5th Philippine Bird Festival, the country’s largest celebration of avifaunal diversity and bird lore awareness, is set to take off on October 9 in Balanga City in Bataan. Balanga holds the Philippine record for hosting the largest concentration of wintering shorebirds from the Asian mainland and Japan.

The Philippine Bird Festival will mark the arrival from the Asian mainland and Japan of wintering shorebirds with the official dedication of the Balanga Nature and Wetland Park, the first protected wetland park in the whole Manila Bay area.

Themed Ibong Dayo, Kaibigan Tayo! (The Migrant Birds: Our Friends), this year’s bird festival aims to drum public support for the conservation and awareness of the Balanga wetlands, where more than 15,000 individual birds were on record during the Asian Waterbird Census in January.

The wetlands of Puerto Rivas in Balanga City attract one of the largest concentration of migrant shorebirds and waterfowl anywhere in the Philippines, according to the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP), the country’s leading bird watching society and organizer of the Philippine Bird Festival.  ( Read more)

InuYasha – The Final Act unleashed same week as Japan across Asia on Animax!

here's a big surprise for all Inu Yasha fans!

InuYasha – The Final Act unleashed same week as Japan across Asia on Animax!

InuYasha – The Final Act premieres 10 October 2009
Airing Saturdays 8pm (SEA, PH, SA) / 7pm (WIB) / 7.30pm (HK) / 11.30pm (TW)
in the same week as Japan, first & exclusively on Animax

Five years on, after 167 anime episodes told the tale of timeless love between half-dog demon warrior InuYasha and time-travelling schoolgirl Kagome Higurashi on an epic adventure to a cliff-hanger, the curtains are finally drawn for the long-awaited conclusion of InuYasha…

InuYasha – The Final Act is set for an Asia-wide premiere within the same week as the series’ debut in Japan, first and exclusively on Animax! The brand new 26-part fantasy, action and romance anime series premieres 10 October 2009, airing Saturdays 8pm (SEA, PH, SA) / 7pm (WIB) / 7.30pm (HK) / 11.30pm (TW) on Animax, within just five days of each episode’s premiere broadcast on Japan’s Yomiuri TV.

Definitely the BIGGEST anime title of 2009, InuYasha – The Final Act will deliver the grand finale to the popular InuYasha franchise that has captivated fans the world over since starting as a manga series in 1998. The brand new series comes to Animax hot on the heels of the anime and youth entertainment network’s same-week-as-Japan broadcast of 2009’s most-anticipated title Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and world’s first same-time-as-Japan simulcast anime Tears to Tiara in April 2009.

Happy 1st Anniversary to Cavite Camera Club

DSC-0043pp
I just attended an anniversary gathering of photographers in Cavite City. It is the 1st year anniversary of the young and active group - Cavite Camera Club also known as CCC, as of now this is the known camera and photographers group in Cavite. The activity started in some introduction about the group, then election of officers for this year, basic photography workshop, and photo shoot with models. The day was full of productivity and creativity and each members shared their views in photography, professionals mentoring and lecturing to others. The day ended with a photo contest, were members asked to submit some photos of their photo walk or model shoot.

CCC is now one year old, and the new roster of officers and non stop incoming of Cavitenos who love photography and camera are heating up the whole city as the hobby or profession for photography will help promote and have awareness about the mighty, beautiful and awesome city of Cavite.

Película, the biggest annual Spanish Film Festival in Asia

It’s a triple treat for film buffs as Instituto Cervantes de Manila brings back Película, the biggest annual Spanish Film Festival in Asia, at chosen venues in Metro Manila from October 1 to 31.

Due to the past successes of its first seven seasons, organizers have doubled the number of films (this year more than 40!), gone from one to three venues and lengthened the film festival. Cultural events have also been calendared, in line with the theme of this year’s festival: Locos por el cine or Adik sa Pelikula.

With new partnerships forged by Instituto Cervantes, the cultural arm of the Spanish Embassy to the Philippines, and the strengthening support from Spanish filmmakers, last year’s attendance by cinema enthusiasts is expected to increase this year. Last year, some 20,000 spectators attended the Festival.

A day visit at Lopez Museum in Ortigas Center, Pasig City

PA019541
I've been hanging out in Megamall and Ortigas area, even work in ABS CBN years ago and exchange my pay check in BPI at the Benpress Bldg, then didn't know my girlfriend and her sisters stay there in the same building and didn't know that her mom issues the pay check to all employees. The big revelation came out after years I quit my job and then found out that Lopez Museum sits there for ages and I didn't even noticed it. I love going to museums and it sparked my interest during elementary days in UST where me and my classmates play as paleontologists and philatelist at an early age. Visiting museum in different kind is like going to churches, my passion for art, culture and science never stops even that I grow old. For this blog series I'm posting, its a feature all about Lopez Musuem.

I'm inviting everyone to check out their latest exhibit called "Double Take", the exhibit is still open and will end on October 10, 2009.

Double Take is an exhibition and feature of Lopez Musuem's collection of Hidalgo and Luna paintings, LVN films and stills, old world and Philippine maps, artifacts, Jose Rizal's letters and accessories,  and many more. Lopez Museum not only exhibit the classic and rich artworks of our national artists, but they also feature new and contemporary artist that contributes their artwork and style with the Double Take exhibit.

There are three sections of the exhibit
1.Double Take ( Hidalgo and Luna artworks and LVN films)
2.Coordinates (old maps )
3.Tutelage (text books from the American colonial and commonwealth period)

PA019475
It was a great experience being there for the first time, and we Filipinos should be visiting our national museums and other alternative spaces and venues that hosts and take cares of our own National Treasures. Lopez Museum is the nearest and most accessible museum located in the middle of the busy Ortigas Center. And I like to invite all students, researchers and art lovers to check it out. The exhibit will end this October 10 and will resume for a new exhibit on November. Check back also to my upcoming blog posts for features of the local comics, artworks and installation arts that is featured in their Double Take exhibit.

I like to post everything and all photos of the exhibits, but I will not spoil you for now, but invite you to check out the museum. It is easy to visit it, its across a street from Textite bldg.

UNO October '09: Ornusa Cadness Behind the Scenes from jayvee Fernandez on Vimeo.

Here's a behind the scene video of Ornusa's photo shoot for UNO Magazine October 2009 issue. I just got this from Jayvee's meme . Few days ago in some kind of lunch out, I just saw a preview image of the magazine's cover. I was so want to blog it, but not allowed to do it, after a few hours, I felt like an amnesia struck me, few days ago I began to think and recall who was that girl in the cover.. and then when I saw this video.. ahhhhh it was her!!!
