I joined Enzo of www.juanmanilaexpress.com here in New World Hotel for the Rappler and Google event, “#ThinkPH: the internet, big data and you” , it’s gathering of all online media, journalist, bloggers and netizens. We arrived at around 3pm and here we caught Narciso Reyes, the country manager for Google Philippines. He showed to us the Google Trends website, a new Google site product that detects and show to you the trending topics available online. This can be used to study the behavior of people and what topic they talk about.

Then we got in time for the start of their final topic which is about “Big Data Case Study: Philippine Elections” . Most topics discussed here are about the recent Philippine election, what went wrong, what we need to improve and what actions should we do in the next election. Most people here in the room talk about the upcoming 2016 Presidential election, and this is a good move that we need to prepare early before 2016.

According to Comelec Chairman Brillianates, that the problem in 2013 election is that there’s no post mortem and analysis on what went wrong during the 2013 election, he admitted that there are some minor problems going on and this should be studied first and prepare a new solution for the 2016 election .

In other talk, Rappler showed to us on how they get data during the recent election. And they throw a big question to Comelec why is that there’s some kind of glitch in the voting count in Taguig City.

The event is one big forum for tech and about the country’s future, in online or offline. I hope there will be more forum like this in the coming months, especially 2014 is coming and more changes are expected to happen in our country.
