It took me some weeks to start a blog post about the controversial Nayong Landing. At first Im not aware that the event that Im going to attend is all about the launch of a new Nayong Pilipino.I was so excited about the announcement about the plan to put a much modern version of the Nayong Pilipino, which we know that is a place to learn about culture and heritage of the Philippines, local and foreign go here if they want to learn and experience the way of life of the people of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Nayong Pilipino was first placed near the Manila airport and then they transferred to a new location in Clark Freeport in Pampanga, the Nayong Pilipino Foundation announced years ago that they are planning to create a better version of the Nayong Pilipino in a reclaimed land in Pasay City.
That plan is really happening, and here at the event they’ve did the groundbreaking ceremony and the revelation of the plan with the help of a developer giant Landing International Development Limited. Landing, who later announced that they will invest 1.5 Billion USD for the development of the new Nayong Pilipino which will be called -- Nayong Landing, and they expect that the project will be complete by year 2020.
The new Nayong Landing will help employ 10,000 job opportunities, 95% are local employees, with a projection of 1-3 million international visitors per year once it opens on year 2020.
At the ground breaking event, all are well until I receive news on social media that our country’s President didn’t like the idea of such investment. I noticed it when camera crews and media men went double at the media pit area, then I saw some whispers and drama at the front, then I saw the reaction of some members of the Nayong Pilipino Foundation.
I felt that….something is really wrong and I hope everything will go well.
Then the news starts to spread, go read -- Duterte sacks entire Nayong Pilipino board
“Recalling what transpired during Monday’s meeting, Roque said the President was incensed that NPF leased a government property “for a ridiculous long period of time of 70 years, beyond the lifetime of anyone.”
“The papers that will formally terminate the entire management and the entire board of directors of Nayong Pilipino will be issued in due course by the Executive Secretary,” Roque added.
Roque could not provide details about the lease contract but he claimed it was originally supposed to be for 70 years, later reduced to 50 years and eventually to 25 years.” -- via https://www.philstar.com/headlines/2018/08/08/1840715/duterte-sacks-entire-nayong-pilipino-board
There are lots of developing news every week, just go Google “Nayong Landing”.
Im not sure if this project will push through, I got excited to see that their plan is really awesome, because I want to see and visit a much upgraded Nayong Pilipino ( sana wala na lang yung casino) but if ever they will find a new developer or do talks to settle the issue, then I hope the plan pushes through.
Here are some photos from the ground breaking event, I arrived late at the Conrad Hotel for the media briefing and then I learned that the double decker jeepney will pick me up and transport me to the ground breaking venue -- which is near Okada Manila.
