Michael Jackson human statue in SM City Taytay

In a rush for a tribute to Michael Jackson at SM City Taytay, the fastest and most unique way is through mimes. Two mimes who dressed up like Michael Jackson showed up last Sunday and placed at the entrance area of the event center of the mall. People were shocked to see the human statue of Michael Jackson that pays tribute to the King of Pop.

Mall goers took pictures, video and pic with the mimes. GMA 7 news went there to cover the actvity. MJ fans were happy that day in Taytay and to see that MJ legacy still lives.

Palawan River falls behind Amazon River in New 7 Wonders

Press Release

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River at no. 2 in New 7 Wonders of Nature poll.

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River slips to number 2 on the New 7 Wonders of Nature (N7WN) poll, prompting the Department of Tourism (DOT) to appeal for support from voters. The Philippine entry is vying for the top spot, which is currently occupied by the Amazon River, among other 54 nominees under the category of Forests/National Parks/Nature Reserves.

There are currently 261 nominees from all over the globe, competing in 7 different categories, only 77 of which will remain after voting ends in July 7, 2009. The campaign is at its second of three stages. ( Read more below)

The contenders have been classified into 7 groups which are: Landscapes/Ice Formations, Islands, Mountains/Volcanoes, Caves/Rock Formations/Valleys, Forests/National Parks/Nature Reserves, Lakes/Rivers/Waterfalls, and Seascapes.

“It’s time we go beyond voting. Let’s all take an active part in promoting Puerto Princesa’s Subterranean River to the whole world,” said Ace Durano, Secretary of Tourism.

“More than a popularity contest, this campaign advocates the protection and preservation of our unique natural wealth,” said Eduardo Jarque, Jr., Tourism Undersecretary for Planning and Promotions.

Voters anywhere in the world can take part in the poll through the internet or via the international telephone voting line, or with a personalized voting certificate.

Renowned as the world’s longest underground river, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park also features a stunning limestone karst mountain landscape. Inside its large chambers are stalactites and stalagmites formations, while at the mouth of its cave thrives a bustling ecosystem which includes monkeys, large monitor lizards, and squirrels.

After the top 77 candidates have been determined, the New7Wonders Panel of Experts, led by Prof. Dr. Federico Mayor, former Director-General of UNESCO, will then take over to select the 21 Finalists.

The New 7 Wonders of Nature is an ongoing campaign sponsored by the New 7 Wonders Foundation based in Switzerland. The same group initiated the New 7 Wonders of the World project in 2007.

Majority of the visitors on the N7WN website has likewise voted for Manila as the venue for the proclamation of the New 7 Wonders of Nature in 2011.

Top 10 best comics shop in the Philippines this 2009

update: October 15, 2013
I'm going to update this blog post and come up a new list for 2013 for the Top 10 best comic shops here in the Philippines. So watch out for my updated blog post.

I just searched on the net and there's no listing or complete directory of local comic book shop or stores that sells comics here in the Philippines. I'm now on a writing project listing the top comic book shop that is known to everyone. I'm still searching for others, as I know that there are shops outside Manila and Luzon, and even I just encountered this comics shop in Baguio 10 years ago.

Villains, Heroes, Fans, Toys Galore published in China Business Philippines

I just stumbled this article in a search and its a lost article from last year, this was published in "China Business Philippines magazine" last year. Thanks to Chester G. Galias for the interview last Toy Con 2007. and according to the article, yes we are pretty beat up that year and I'm beat up too and so tired, and got time to do this interview.

I'm posting everything, just to save the article for future use

Villains, Heroes, Fans, Toys Galore
You wouldn’t expect the toys you used to throw around when you were five to cost thousands of pesos today. And because you were a brat and didn’t take care of them like you were told, you can do nothing now but watch as others make serious money selling classic Legos, Transformers, and G.I. Joe action figures.

The toy business in the Philippines is a growing enterprise as proven at this year’s Philippine Toys, Hobbies, and Collectibles Convention. From around 40 in 2003, there were some 90 booths at the recent ToyCon. Visitors (ages 3 to 70, according to organizer Azrael Coladilla) admired and purchased collector’s items on display.

Each ToyCon is anchored on a particular theme, usually an upcoming big-budget US summer flick. In 2007, it was Transformers; this year, The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins (2005). A steady stream of visitors had their pictures snapped next to a life-size replica of Batman and The Joker’s bust. Other popular photo-op dummies were Superman, Godzilla, and The Joker’s assistant, Harley Quinn. A very realistic replica of the head and shoulder armor of Iron Man was also on display.

Dressed to Kill
The convention floor space was filled with nearly a hundred vendors plying thousands of authentic movie memorabilia, comic books, robots, trading cards, CDs, hats, dolls, pins, action figures, and other hard-to-find items.

But costume play was still the main attraction. Costume play (“cosplay” among aficionados) is a contest where fans get to dress up and act like their favorite characters in animé, video games, comic books, and movies.

Darth Vader, Yoda, Spiderman, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Super Mario, Chun-Li, Naruto, and Lord Sauron from The Lord of the Rings novel were just some the over 100 creatures walking around the venue for photo-ops and, of course, for the best cosplayer award.

Not to be Outdone
The 7th ToyCon may have been overflowing with merchandise from animation and comic book powerhouses US and Japan, but the Philippines and China also had some strong representatives at the venue. (Even “Manny Pacquiao” was there!)

Some young Filipino comic book artists doing subcontracted work for foreign clients were on hand to give practical tips on how to succeed in the comic book industry. Also featured was a video of Filipino American artist Whilce Portacio, where the former Marvel Comics artist encouraged budding artists.

The classic works of homebound master illustrators Alfredo P. Alcala (Voltar and Alcala Komix Magazine) and Mars Ravelo (Darna, Dyesebel, and Captain Barbell) were also exhibited.

The Philippines was also represented by the “Foldabots,” a Transformers-inspired line of paper art robots crafted by architect Jose Miguel “Jomike” Tejido. Its first commercial run was in 2006 for K-Zone Magazine, from where kids could simply cut out Foldabots from its pages. The robots have Filipino names like Buhawi (whirlwind), Tutubi (dragonfly), and Kalasag (shield). Most of the Foldabots turn into either local vehicles or endemic species. New versions come out every month, some of them even designed to form one bigger robot.

As for China, TOSE China and mobiusgames launched GONG!, a multiplayer online soccer game that has totally different, wacky rules and unconventional playing fields.

TOSE China was established in Shanghai in November 1993. The firm is a fully-owned subsidiary of Japan’s TOSE Co. Ltd, said to be the world’s largest non-publishing game developer.

TOSE’s second studio in China was founded in Hangzhou in 2001. So far, TOSE China has produced 400 titles for the world’s top gaming companies and mobile content publishers. The company is also involved in creating games for consoles, handheld game devices, and 2G and 3G mobile phones.

Organizers are pretty upbeat that next year’s ToyCon will again be bigger. They could be right. After all, there’s an inner child in all of us, as proven by the multi-billion-dollar toy industry.

SO how IMAX digital Theater system works?

The technologies of an IMAX theater includes:

1. IMAX Image Enhancer - IMAX’s proprietary image enhancer brightens the on-screen image, and, through the use of a camera that provides real-time, on-screen feedback, it makes automated adjustments to ensure maximum image fidelity is maintained 100% of the time.

2. Customized Theatre Geometry -IMAX’s customized theatre geometry maximizes your field of view, putting you IN the movie – and is a key reason why IMAX® 3D is the most immersive cinematic 3D ever created.

3.IMAX Audio System
-IMAX’s powerful audio system delivers laser-aligned digital sound.
- IMAX’s Proportional Point Source loudspeaker technology enables listeners to pinpoint the specific location of a sound – with five discrete audio channels. (conventional 5.1 disperses sound through many speakers making it nearly impossible to locate the origin of the sound)
- Each IMAX theatre is acoustically treated to present accurate and realistic sound images with the largest dynamic range. This enables the sound to be crisp enough to hear a pin drop and precise enough to know exactly where it dropped.
- Each film’s soundtrack is specially mastered for IMAX’s unique sound system.

4. IMAX Screen
- IMAX’s proprietary high-gain screen results in exceptionally bright images and unparalleled 3D
- The IMAX screen is slightly curved and sits closer to the audience.

5. Dual Digital Projectors
- IMAX’s revolutionary digital projection technology is “projector agnostic,” meaning that it can utilize commercially available digital technology that best meets IMAX requirements – the projectors are merely a vehicle for IMAX’s proprietary image enhancer, which turbo charges the basic functionality of the light engine.
- One of the key benefits of being projector agnostic is that IMAX can adapt and even improve as suppliers develop new technologies.
- The current system uses two 2k Christie projectors and has a 1.9:1 aspect ratio – in keeping with the best-tested chip sets – and we continue to work with dual 4k projectors.

- All film content that is played through IMAX’s digital projection system is digitally re-mastered with IMAX DMR technology.
- IMAX DMR employs a suite of proprietary image enhancement tools that optimize each image for IMAX presentation. Some of the techniques used to enhance the digital image include sharpening, color correction, contrast and digital artifact removal.

i just learned that they used two 2k Christie projectors, I got introduced to this projectors last 2002 and I didn't know that they use this brand. And yes that's the best brand for projectors in the world. And the year 2002, didn't know that IMAX will be the next big thing in the revolution of cinemas.
