1st Philippine International Pyromusical Competition 2010

If you are planning to celebrate your Valentines Day and want to have a romantic setting or want to celebrate the Chinese New Year 2010 with your friends and family then go to this new event that will make you wow with excitement everytime those gigantic fireworks light up the sky in SM Mall of Asia by the bay. I'm talking about the The 1st Philippine International Pyromusical Competition 2010, yes! this is a new event and it is a combination of fireworks dancing with choreography with symphonic music. Fireworks can dance with the blackest sky at night and the people are the judge and audience to see who is the better fireworks dancer.

Great to see our movie bloggers again for this year 2010, this is the 2nd movie activity of the year and glad everyone made it to the movie premiere of Jackie Chan's movie, The Spy Next Door. Thanks also to Viva International Pictures for the movie premiere treat.

The movie is for all ages, its a funny action movie that your family will sure love it. Jackie Chan is back again doing lots of martial arts and stunt, also showing some new gimiks as a spy agent. I really love the opening scene of the film, showing some clips of Jackie Chan doing some stunts and action from his old and modern movies, it was a fast pace but there you can see Jackie do all those stunts. Also my first time to see Jackie kissing an American actress hehehehe. that's very rare in all of his movies.

Directed by Brian Levant and to be released locally by Viva International Pictures, The Spy Next Door also stars George Lopez, Lucas Till, and celebrity dad Billy Ray Cyrus. The movie opens nationwide on January 15 (Friday).

The Princess and the Frog : a modern twist on a classic tale

This is a must see animated movie if you are a fan of Walt Disney, and also a big comeback of using traditional hand drawing in animation, I don't know if they used some computer animated effects here, but I love to have another feel of the classic animated style of Walt Disney. The Princess and the Frog is the 49th animated feature film from Walt Disney Pictures, a tradition established nearly 75 years ago with the release of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and this will open soon here in the Philippines.

2009_the_princess_and_the_frog_003
Walt Disney Animation Studios serves up a joyous gumbo of adventurous storytelling, captivating characters, offbeat comedy and memorable music in the all-new feature “The Princess and the Frog,” an animated comedy set in the great city of New Orleans .

From the creators of “The Little Mermaid” and “Aladdin” comes a modern twist on a classic tale, featuring a beautiful girl named Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again, and a fateful kiss that leads them both on a hilarious adventure through the mystical bayous of Louisiana. “The Princess and the Frog” marks the return to hand-drawn animation from the revered team of John Musker and Ron Clements, with music by Oscar®-winning composer Randy Newman. A childhood movie will take you to "Where The Wild Things Are"

I'm excited to see this, and if you read the PR below, it says that it will be exclusively available in Glorietta 4 and Greenbelt 3 cinemas, I wonder why.. hmm maybe because that local pirates are still active in other cinemas and this is a good way of preventing a film be pirated. not sure if this movie is in our local dibidi. But  I love to see this movie, even that I forgot already the book which we always snatch away in UST library during my elementary years hehhee. As the librarian says "naka out yung book". Where The Wild Things Are will be released here on February 3, 2010.

Where the Wild Things Are
Innovative director Spike Jonze collaborates with celebrated author Maurice Sendak to bring one of the most beloved books of all time to the big screen in Warner Bros.’ “Where the Wild Things Are,” a classic story about childhood and the places we go to figure out the world we live in.

To be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4 and Greenbelt 3), the film tells the story of Max, a rambunctious and sensitive boy who feels misunderstood at home and escapes to where the Wild Things are. Max lands on an island where he meets mysterious and strange creatures whose emotions are as wild and unpredictable as their actions.

The Wild Things desperately long for a leader to guide them, just as Max longs for a kingdom to rule. When Max is crowned king, he promises to create a place where everyone will be happy. Max soon finds, though, that ruling his kingdom is not so easy and his relationships there prove to be more complicated than he originally thought.

“I didn’t set out to make a children’s movie; I set out to make a movie about childhood,” says director Spike Jonze, whose big-screen adaptation of the captivating Maurice Sendak classic was truly a labor of love. In it, he further explores the themes Sendak introduced and which Jonze believes remain relevant to every generation. “It’s about what it’s like to be eight or nine years old and trying to figure out the world, the people around you, and emotions that are sometimes unpredictable or confusing—which is really the challenge of negotiating relationships all your life,” he says. “It’s no different at that age.” (read more)

Finally! Ghostbusters 3 movie

http://meme.zenfs.com/u/134f33de8ee46e5445df798fed1bf3d88f5a442d.jpeg

Ivan Reitman, director and producer of the two movies already say YES to do another movie and that's the third installment of Ghostbusters. We will be seeing the entire gang again and also new member of the generation of Ghostbusters, and of course we will see a different Slimer this time. And I didn't expected that Sigourney Weaver did spill up the news after her Avatar movie shoot.

I wish it will be a 2011 movie release. We need to bring back this classic film and popularity of the ghost hunting mania in mainstream media.

5 toy store closes down in Shoppeville, Greenhills

PC187331
I just got this news from an insider and he said that 5 toy shops already closed last year December 2009, and this is not a good sign for malls that kick outs toy stores after years of making it a hub for hard to find collectibles and bringing back the energy of a dying mall. From what I heard, the mall is now charging them a 25k pesos month rental, that's a big leap for having 10k pesos per month rental in that small space in Shoppesville. I also heard that the mall admin said that they don't need toy stores anymore in their area and wanted clothes and accessories to be sold instead.I think they want to compete to other malls that's why they need more clothing stores.

Is this the new rules of Shoppesville? or a way of saying, thank you for renting our space and bringing more shoppers (for toys and etc.) .I guess this is their new way of kicking out the toy stores for making way to get new tenants and remodel their shopping ambiance. Such a bad vibes, but that's okay, I heard that these 5 toy stores will be transferring to another new and ACCESSIBLE  location. I'm excited to see the big move and I can predict that all toy stores in Greenhills will soon follow and re-locate to this new ground of hobby.

I remember when all of them started to open one by one in Greenhills, I even got offers to open my store or an anime video rental shop there years ago when the mall started to die, but then if they kick the sellers out, it will be a big chain reaction that all of the other toy stores will follow also.

All I can say is that, move out and start again to a new venue. If ever they will be re-located, what is your suggestion for the new venue?

anyone remember's this? - http://azraelsmerryland.blogspot.com/2009/03/toy-stores-in-greenhills-will-move-from.html

Thor movie started filming in Earth and Asgard

I read at Marvel.com that the Thor movie is already started their principal photography, means that they are now filming and ready to target the May 6, 2010 showing of "THOR" under Paramount Pictures, this is another comics to movie hit from Marvel Comics.

The movie is directed by Kenneth Branagh, and because of his presence, I'm expecting a lot of costumes and a grim or darker story for Thor.  Chris Hemsworth will be as Thor, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, half brother of Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Academy Award® winning actor Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Renee Russo as Frigga, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun, Josh Dallas as Fandral, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Idris Elba as Heimdall, as well as Colm Feore, Kat Dennings and award-winning actor Stellan Skarsgård.

Maybe after a few months, we can already get a teaser trailer or some photos of the film, I'm already thinking how will they make Stan Lee to appear in this film haaaahah. More news at http://marvel.com/movies/thor.thor

I just came home from a far away land, you can see the photo above and I'm standing infront of this giant Buddha statue. you might mistake it that I came from Thailand, but no need to go there to see a giant Buddha, but all you have to do is drive your way to Gerona, Tarlac and then go straight to Isdaan restaurant, there you will see not only 1,but more giant statues of Buddha, animals and dinosaurs.

I'm just posting this to give an update to everyone, I'm fixing my stuff here and charging all my batteries as I'm going to attend a Voters Education gig event at Saguijo today at 9pm.  see you there!

Spider-Man movie targets 2012 (official announcement)

I didn't expected that it will be another reboot movie for Spidey. I just hope they can continue the last story of part 3, but if ever they can show us a good movie, I'm all go for it. I like to vote Rhino, Vulture, Doc Ock, Mysterio as the main villain, as for the new actors, hmm.. but it's okay, when they mentioned a reboot, I'm hoping for another Gwen Stacy.

Culver City, CA (January 11, 2010) -- Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012.

Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager dealing with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.

The new chapter in the Spider-Man franchise produced by Columbia, Marvel Studios and Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will have a new cast and filmmaking team. Spider-Man 4 was to have been released in 2011, but had not yet gone into production.

“A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and together we made three Spider-Man films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box-office and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise. Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We’re very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter's roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning,” said Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment. “The concept of food-weather seemed perfect to experience in 3D,” says co-director Christopher Miller.

Adds co-director Phil Lord, “The power of 3D is to draw you into a movie even more, to allow you to empathize with the characters in a way you might not were you not so involved.” (read more below)

a trip to ToyTown Eastwood City

IMG_0235
I didnt expected that our meeting will end inside a toy store, me and my buds of ToyCon just finished a meeting and Cholo said to us that there's this 12 inch Queen Amidala doll that is for sale at around P150. We began to think and get crazy as we wrap up our meeting and head to ToyTown in Eastwood City to buy that doll. I'm so amazed that toys are sold at around 70%. I saw this Terminator Salvation figures that is sold at around  P200, then vehicles for P400, then saw Star Trek figures priced at P100 and P50, and the awesome Star Trek Enterprise for only P800. kakabaliw talaga.

Then me and my buds got some Amidala dolls and then me some Star Trek figs, yeah taking them home for a price of P50 each. I got Kirk, Uhura, Scotty and Mccoy. Too bad that Spock Zachary Quinto is no longer available, but its okay, at least I have my first ever Star Trek movie toys.

my haul

Check out the store guys!, last day of the store will be this friday on the 15th. then we will wait for another month I think, for they will transfer at the 3rd floor of Eastwood Mall. hmmm  I just hope that Enterprise is still available.

Such a Geeky Transformers Philippine meet up

P1080183
Santa Marc Cerbo called us to have our meet up for our club Transformers Philippines (the premiere club for Transformers in the Philippines) to have our Xmas meet up last January 9 at Starbucks Megastrip. I went there after my photo coverage of the Feast of the Black Nazarene and got lucky to be there on time before he gave out some toys for us that was shipped from Australia, and thanks to our member Neil for giving some cool unopened boxes of Transformers toys for all members who are present.

I got Segagiga aka Andy as my team mate and we just won 2nd place by adding the words we have guessed correctly. Pretty boy Jaycee and TFPH blogger Miko Matsing got in for 1st place and then Cyber lover Mark Santos and Vince got in for 3rd place.

and I'm so happy that I took home a Transformers Revenge of the Fallen toy : Chromia and that add on head Iron Hide and Ratchet G1 Transformers. We became so noisy inside the cafe and after that we played on Jaycee's big prize : Bruticus Maximus combiners. All topics revolves on Transformers and some toys, and then the other part went rated PG 13 hahahah.

Jackie Chan is “The Spy Next Door”

Its Drunken Master meets James Bond, but let's add the Nanny on the side. Jacky Chan will make us laugh once again after the Rush Hour series, and also wow us with lots of stunts that he do it without any double. Movie will be released on January 15 in all Philippine theaters.

the spy next door publicity photo 05
Known for his good comic timing and fast-moving stunts, Asian superstar Jackie Chan stars in a new action-comedy bound to give people countless laughs. This is his return to Hollywood after the groundbreaking Forbidden Kingdom he starred in with fellow Asian biggie Jet Li. This time around, the 'protector' is an inactive spy who suddenly finds himself reluctantly in for another mission challenging his espionage skills and high hopes of becoming stepdad to his girlfriends' kids.

Lions Gate Films found Chan the right act for The Spy Next Door as he sensibly fits the role of Bob Ho, an undercover CIA super spy who chooses to settle down with his next-door girlfriend Gillian (Amber Valletta). He spies no more as he focuses himself to win the hearts of his girlfriend's three children from a previous relationship—a requirement set by the latter before she agrees to marry him. Did You Hear About the Morgans?

This is some kind of a funny-romantic movie ( I guess), but after watching the trailer all I can say is that this is more than just a love story movie, but on how to fix your relationship with the interference of some natural cause. What would you do to live a new life with your partner and escape your techie lifestyle.

From Marc Lawrence, director of romantic comedy hits “Music and Lyrics” and “Two Weeks Notice,” comes Columbia Pictures’ new delightfully funny love story “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” starring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The riotous comedy follows a highly successful Manhattan couple, Paul and Meryl Morgan (Grant and Parker), whose almost-perfect lives have only one notable failure – their dissolving marriage. But the turmoil of their romantic lives is nothing compared to what they are about to experience: they witness a murder and become targets of a contract killer. The Feds, protecting their witnesses, whisk away the Morgans from their beloved New York to a tiny town in Wyoming, and a relationship that was on the rocks threatens to end completely in the Rockies… unless, in their new BlackBerry-free lives, the Morgans can slow down the pace and rekindle the passion.

Marc Lawrence is no stranger to writing and directing romantic comedies. But it was while shooting those films that he was developing ideas for “Did You Hear About The Morgans?,” a story that would push his boundaries within the genre by covering new ground: marriage. (read more below)

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - from a children's book to animated movie

I'm really excited for this movie, and I remember during my youngling days I always dreamed of my favorite food are dropping from the sky and it will land anywhere in the place where I am and whenever I am hungry, and didn't expected that this movie came from a children's book. Wow! children's books turning into movies is the the new trend for this generation. January 27th is the target date, so if I were you, I will bring an umbrella and some large platter. Bon appetit!

CloudyWithMeatballs_01
Sony Pictures Animation’s acclaimed comedy “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” began life in 1978 as a children’s book written by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett, which now has over a million copies in print. With its charming, visually inventive style, absurdist sense of humor, and fantastic premise – a town where food falls from the sky! – it seemed a foregone conclusion that the book would be adapted into an animated movie. But no one was quite able to do it until writer-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller came along and found inspiration from a seemingly obvious source – the book itself.

“It’s a hilarious book and great inspiration,” says Miller – noting that it was their favorite book as kids. “The film we wrote starts with the book’s overall structure – there’s a town where food falls like rain, but that turns out to have great problems for the people – and builds from there. We get to find out the origins of how the town came to be Chewandswallow and follow an ensemble of unique characters through this crazy adventure.” (read more below)

Feast of the Black Nazarene 2010 : infront of a sea of people and the Black Nazarene

I waited for 2 hours on top of the roof of the underpass in Lawton, Manila, and got this thought to stay here and it is a good spot for taking pictures and a safe zone for the incoming of a sea of people and the Black Nazarene. I just saw some devotees climbing and also photographers above, I decided to climb up and stay there, it was too risky and dangerous to climb up using the custom made iron bar stairs. I'm glad that I have my umbrella to fight the heat of the sun and also got myself a small bottle of mineral water. It keep me alive and cool for 2 hours and standing on top of the roof. I also saw some photographers from the other side of the under pass and looks like that they got a great view of the Nazarene. Because when it arrives, the face of the Nazarene can be seen from their area.

It was a heart thumping scene as I see people get hurt climbing up and pulling the rope of the Black Nazarene. I just noticed too that the place were I stay is getting crowded and full, I manage to stay safe and maintain my balance and prevent myself to fall from the edge of the roof. Full of shouting and tension when group of people tried to grab the rope, while others continue to fight and remain standing and holding the rope. I also observed some of them are praying and looking at the sky as it was like they are talking to God or talking to Jesus to give them strength to stay holding the rope. I also saw females in the sea of people holding the rope, but the youngest female I saw was dragged out of the line after she was spotted going to collapse. Some male devotees climbed up on the carosa of the Nazarene, many of them fell down and the freakiest thing I saw is a guy fell down from the top and landed on the pavement, face down.

The main marshal on top of the Nazarene guides the people who are pulling the rope and everyone is screaming and shouting "hila!" or "pull!". And then everyone screamed when they saw the carosa moved and everyone raised their hanky and towel and wave it in the air to welcome the grand entrance of Senor Nazareno. It was a great sight for me to witness it, and it is my first time ever to see it in close range, but this is my 2nd run to see it live, but the previous year was just an accident to see it when we gone lost on the route and avoided the procession, but then this year, I plan it myself to see it and pray for my family.

Feast of the Black Nazarene 2010 : different kinds of Nazarenos in Sta. Cruz Manila

P1089742

P1089812

I call this place as the ground zero for the Black Nazarene procession, because this is the path to Quiapo Church. I arrived here after our lunch break and my sis went home already, my plan is to go to Arlegui area or under that bridge in Quiapo and position myself for the coming of the procession, but then my vibes were attracted to go to Sta. Cruz, there I saw a lot of people waiting and standing in the middle of the street. There are other replicas arrived from different baranggays, and it seems that they arrived first before the Senor Nazareno.

I got an idea to stay there and wait, but after standing there for 30 minutes, I decided to walk and approach the coming procession, then I decided to go back and wait there instead. I was thinking at first if the Senor Nazareno arrived already, but I noticed that the people were still there and waiting, saw also some photographers waiting in the safe zone, while others are walking straight going to Manila City Hall, then I decided again to walk and go to that area, and I was right! the Senor Nazareno is still in Manila City Hall area and it just passed Luneta.

They were moving so slow and saw already large group of people, it was like a sea of people  and I can see it from a far venue from were I stay. I took a lot of pics of the incoming replicas and saw different kinds of Nazarenos again in all sizes and shapes and how each baranggay represent it to the public. It is such a great sight to see a bayanihan from all of them, they carry food for their crew and also water, so that they can eat if ever they get tired from walking and carrying that lifesize replicas.

Feast of the Black Nazarene 2010 : at Wah Sun Cantonese Restaurant

IMG_0166
To relax, rest and enjoy some good food, me and my decided eat our brunch here at Wah Sun Cantonese Restaurant. Been looking for this and didn't know that it was only infront of Ambos mundos and located at the other side of Avenida before Carriedo. I remember that our dad takes us here every Sunday with the whole family. We eat here even at around near midnight.

They have a mini zoo there to house their lucky charm wild boar, birds, snakes and crocs.
we got a bill of around P600 for our meals that day. It's a little bit pricey, but the food and taste is good.
We stayed there for some hours to rest after eating and then watch the tv news for an update regarding the procession of the Black Nazarene, at that time, they are still in P. Burgos st.

Feast of the Black Nazarene 2010 : Raon, Carriedo and Ronquillo st.

P1089715
After the mass, me and my sis decided to eat our brunch in Wah Sun restaurant, we have this some sort of celebrating the feast after the mass by filling our tummy with good food, almost every year we always eat there at Cho Nam food house and Lola Elys, but this time we decided to walk across Raon st. going to the other side of Avenida to eat our favorite resto since we are a kid with our family. Wah Sun was formerly known as Sun Wah during the 90's and it was funny and didn't know the reason why they switch the name and family name.

While ordering, I didn't know that Wah Sun is also owned by Ambos Mundos resto, the oldest restaurant in the Philippines established since the 1800's. Okay, since I'm already carrying my camera, I decided to take some pics while we walk to our lunch venue. Doing a photo walk is fun, but we need to be careful in being alert with the surroundings and be safe carrying our camera gears. I'm so glad that we arrived the Raon St. after some blowing firecrackers. Lots of lion and dragon dancers are visitng each stores, some of them got lucky to do a lion dance and receive good money for good luck from the tsinoy business owners.

The only thing I will miss here is the street food. awwww. I carry a P500 bill and seems that the stalls dont have a change for it. I saw the lumpia gulay and lots of suman. I will horde some street foods next year.

Feast of the Black Nazarene 2010 : some scenes in Quiapo Church

IMG_0115
It is very difficult to enter the church at this hour, the place is very crowded and all you need  is a strategy and some luck if you want to enter the church, but because that the area is super crowded already, we usually attend and listen to the mass near the near walls, we are outside standing under the sun and move around whenever there are people coming in and out in front of us or at our bacl. Our place in there is not good, because behind us are candle vendors and it was hot and I can't breathe properly due to the candle's smog.

We just finished the end half of the mass and minutes later it started to the beginning. People coming in and out and others are carrying their Black Nazarene image statues on all kinds of shapes, sizes, color and style. Whenever they come near the people, they usually touch or place their hanky all over the statue and pray. And during the mass, a priest member is outside blessing us with holy water, I got hit by it and my camera got wet, I'm so glad that my DSLR has lens filter that time. But it's okay, maybe this will give me good luck and be safe in doing photo coverages.  I like the other side of the church, because I remember they installed a video wall on the side so that you can see the priest doing the ceremony from the inside of the church.
